LayarHijau – Winwin is winning over viewers with his performance in the Chinese costume drama A Splendid Match. Although he plays the second male lead, his portrayal of Ye Xian has unexpectedly become one of the drama’s biggest talking points online.

His refined features, expressive eyes, and noble aura even led some fans to compare him to characters from the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber.

Many viewers described him as looking like a young aristocrat straight out of a traditional Chinese story.
Before A Splendid Match, Winwin had already stepped into the costume drama genre through Perfect Match. However, his latest role has pushed his popularity in historical dramas to a whole new level.
Ye Xian may appear carefree and playful on the surface, but the character is deeply loyal and emotional underneath. The drama also reveals that he was born with a heart condition, adding another layer of tragedy to his story.
The character’s heartbreaking ending became one of the most discussed moments in the series. In the final battle, Ye Xian puts on his late father’s armor and leads the remaining soldiers in a desperate attempt to defend the city before ultimately dying on the battlefield.
The emotional storyline left many viewers devastated and unable to move on from the character.
During a recent fan meeting in Shanghai, Winwin personally responded to the viral praise surrounding his historical drama image. Laughing, he said, “In the future, I want to try more great historical drama roles. I think I can keep filming costume dramas until I’m 50.”
Beyond his visuals, Winwin’s acting performance also drew strong reactions online, especially a crying scene that later went viral on Weibo.
In the scene, Ye Xian tries to help Gu Jinzhao, played by Ren Min, by teaching her gambling-addicted younger brother a lesson. Instead, his actions only make her furious and create tension between them.
Viewers praised the subtle way Winwin handled the emotional moment. As Ye Xian silently holds back tears, the character slowly realizes his own regret before a tear finally falls down his face.
The scene quickly spread across Chinese social media, with fans praising the emotional depth he delivered through restrained expressions and small facial movements rather than exaggerated reactions.
One fan wrote, “That single tear scene was unforgettable,” while others admitted they were surprised by how strong Winwin’s acting had become after debuting as an idol.
