LayarHijau – The popularity of Chinese short drama actor Zhang Chi turned out to be far beyond what organizers expected. A cosmetic brand pop-up event that the actor was scheduled to attend in Zhengzhou was suddenly canceled after the venue became overcrowded with fans, raising safety concerns.
Zhang Chi rose to fame through popular short dramas such as Breaking the Cage and Mutual Desire. In addition to his success in vertical dramas, he has also appeared in popular long-form dramas including The Blood of Youth and Lost You Forever.

According to Chinese media reports, organizers initially estimated that only around 300 people would attend the event. However, when the shopping mall opened at 9:30 a.m., the venue was immediately packed with fans and curious onlookers who gathered to see what was happening.
The number of visitors far exceeded expectations, making the area extremely crowded and difficult to control. Fans who managed to enter the mall were reportedly restricted to the back area of the event space, while the front section was blocked off by security personnel, preventing many people from getting closer. The situation reportedly became chaotic before organizers ultimately decided to cancel the event for safety reasons.
What disappointed many fans even more was the effort Zhang Chi had made to attend the event. The actor reportedly filmed until 3:00 a.m. before catching an early morning flight to Zhengzhou. After learning that the event had been canceled, he immediately returned to the filming set to continue working.
Many fans had reportedly arrived in Zhengzhou a day earlier in hopes of meeting the actor up close. Some spent money on flights and hotels, only to leave disappointed after the last-minute cancellation.
Following the announcement, Zhang Chi’s studio quickly released an apology statement to fans, emphasizing that everyone’s safety remained the top priority.
“Following the notice received by the team, we cooperated with and complied with the safety management decision made by public security authorities, putting everyone’s safety first and eliminating all risks of overcrowding and stampedes,” the studio stated.
The studio also apologized directly to fans for the sudden situation.
“We sincerely apologize to everyone for disappointing you and causing inconvenience.”
Zhang Chi’s studio added that they are currently preparing a compensation plan based on the actual situation surrounding the event. They also expressed hope that they could make up for the disappointment and repay fans for their continued support and enthusiasm.
