LayarHijau – The success of Chinese drama Legend of Zang Hai (藏海传) is far from over. The production team has officially begun preparing for a second season, and fans are already asking one big question: will Xiao Zhan return as Zang Hai?
That question was finally addressed by Legend of Zang Hai director Zheng Xiaolong himself. In a recent interview, he strongly hinted that Xiao Zhan will continue leading the new season.

“The male lead of Legend of Zang Hai is played by Xiao Zhan. Without him, ‘Zang Hai’ would become a completely different person,” Zheng Xiaolong said.
His response quickly went viral online, especially among viewers who had been worried the actor might not return for the sequel.
In the first season, Xiao Zhan portrayed the intelligent and calculating Zang Hai, a character known for his mysterious personality and emotional depth. His performance received widespread praise and helped turn the drama into one of last year’s biggest hits.
At the same time, Xiao Zhan’s 10-year contract with his former agency Wajijiwa has officially ended. Many fans believe his new freedom will allow him to explore more diverse roles and genres in the future.
The actor is currently filming the suspense drama The Infinite 10 Days (十日终焉), marking another new challenge in his acting career.
Even so, viewers remain curious whether the sequel will bring back the original cast. Zheng Xiaolong only said that everything still depends on the development of the script.
In fact, the director had already hinted at the possibility of a sequel shortly after the first season ended. However, he emphasized that the team does not want to create a second season simply to chase profits or follow market trends.
According to him, the script for season two still needs time and careful refinement.
Fans have also been analyzing the newly released season two poster, which features a dragon and phoenix facing each other. Many believe the imagery hints at the introduction of an important new female lead in the upcoming story.
Meanwhile, the ending of season one is also believed to have planted clues for the sequel. In the finale, Zang Hai chose to keep the important “Gui Xi” by his side instead of handing it over to the emperor. Many viewers suspect that decision will become a major storyline in season two.
Interestingly, the script development for the first season reportedly began as early as 2021. At the time, the writers had completed only five episodes, while production discussions reportedly involved more than ten meetings focused solely on story details. Because of that, fans are hoping the second season will receive the same level of careful preparation.
