LayarHijau – Xiao Zhan’s appearance in Hong Kong on Wednesday (Aug. 19) drew an enormous crowd, with more than 10,000 fans gathering in Tsim Sha Tsui for the actor’s brand appearance as a global ambassador. The sheer turnout caused major crowd-control concerns and briefly raised fears that the event could be called off.
Fans had already started arriving the night before, with some even spending the night at the venue despite the rain in hopes of securing a good viewing spot. Supporters traveled from mainland China, Macau, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and other parts of Asia to see Xiao Zhan in person.

The scale of the turnout also highlighted Xiao Zhan’s enormous appeal beyond mainland China. Many fans reportedly planned trips to Hong Kong specifically around the event, while some even spent large amounts of money on advertisements featuring Xiao Zhan at well-known landmarks across the city.
The event was scheduled to take place at K11 MUSEA in Tsim Sha Tsui on Wednesday evening. By the morning, however, the number of fans gathering around the venue had continued to grow, with crowds eventually filling the mall and spilling toward the Avenue of Stars.
Many fans wore red outfits and carried red banners and other support items. The gathering was not entirely peaceful, however, as tensions reportedly broke out between Xiao Zhan’s individual fanbase and fans who support his pairing with Wang Yibo, whose on-screen partnership with Xiao Zhan became hugely popular after the two starred in the 2019 hit drama The Untamed (陈情令).
The sweltering weather made the long wait even more difficult. Temperatures in Hong Kong reportedly climbed to around 35–36°C, leaving thousands of fans waiting in the heat for hours.
Xiao Zhan’s team responded by distributing bottled water, cooling patches, and ice to fans at the scene. Through his staff, Xiao Zhan also reminded those waiting to take care of their health and avoid heatstroke.
As the event drew closer, the crowd became increasingly difficult to manage, with fans jostling for better viewing positions. There was also a reported confrontation between security personnel and members of the media. Authorities subsequently arrived to assess the situation and help maintain order.
With the crowd becoming increasingly dense, the mall eventually turned off its lights and cleared the area as a safety precaution. Fans were asked to move outdoors and continue waiting there. Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station also implemented crowd-control measures to help manage the large number of people in the area.
The chaotic situation left some fans worried that the event might be canceled altogether. The appearance was ultimately delayed until around 7 p.m., when Xiao Zhan finally arrived by car dressed in an all-black outfit.
The moment fans spotted him, loud screams erupted across the area. Xiao Zhan repeatedly moved closer to the crowd, waving and greeting fans who had waited for hours to see him.
His interactions with the crowd added to the excitement of the evening, while also allowing Xiao Zhan to show his appreciation for the fans who had braved the heat and endured the long wait. Photos from the event showed large groups of supporters gathered along the Avenue of Stars and outside K11 MUSEA.
The Hong Kong appearance marked Xiao Zhan’s first public appearance since wrapping production on the Chinese drama The Infinite 10 Days (十日终焉). He had previously announced his Hong Kong schedule as part of his activities as the brand’s global ambassador.
Xiao Zhan Spotted Exploring Hong Kong With His Parents
Xiao Zhan reportedly arrived in Hong Kong several days before the event and took the opportunity to spend some time with his family.
The 34-year-old actor was spotted walking around Central with his parents. He kept his look casual, wearing a T-shirt and shorts while carrying a large bag. Unlike his usual public appearances, he was not wearing a mask or hat.
His appearance naturally caught the attention of netizens, but since Xiao Zhan was enjoying private time with his family, people reportedly chose not to approach him or take photos.
Xiao Zhan Reportedly Eyed for Zhang Yimou’s New Film
Amid the attention surrounding Xiao Zhan’s Hong Kong appearance, the actor has also been linked to a potential new film project.
According to online reports, Xiao Zhan has been handpicked by acclaimed director Zhang Yimou to join the cast of an upcoming mystery comedy reportedly titled The Secret Keeper (守密者).
If the reports prove accurate, Xiao Zhan would join a star-studded cast reportedly featuring Jackson Yee, Yang Mi, Liu Haocun, and Ni Ni.
For now, however, Xiao Zhan’s involvement in The Secret Keeper remains unconfirmed. Neither his team nor the production side has officially announced that he has joined the project.
Xiao Zhan has increasingly expanded his career into film in recent years. He previously starred in Tsui Hark’s The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants (射雕英雄传：侠之大者) and Kong Sheng’s Gezhi Town (得闲谨制).
The two films reportedly earned around RMB 680 million and RMB 412 million at the box office, respectively. Their performances have further strengthened Xiao Zhan’s position as one of China’s most popular actors, while his growing presence on the big screen has added another dimension to his career.
Xiao Zhan also received a Best Actor nomination at the 2026 Asian Film Festival for Gezhi Town. With his continued move from television dramas into major film productions, he is increasingly being regarded as a major star with strong potential in China’s film industry.
