LayarHijau— Rising Chinese star Zhang Linghe has recently reached a new milestone by clinching the top spot on the Weibo Actor Influence Index for March. Following his explosive popularity in the hit series Pursuit of Jade (逐玉), he achieved an impressive actor heat value of 102 million. In a candid interview, the actor opened up about his motivations for entering the entertainment industry, which stem from a mix of rebelliousness and a desire for variety.
Zhang Linghe shared that he finds the ability to experience diverse lives within a short period to be the most rewarding aspect of his profession. The constant interaction with different scripts, co-stars, and directors provides a sense of dynamism that keeps him motivated throughout his career. “I cannot tolerate doing the same thing every day from nine to five,” he explained, noting that the spark of creativity and change in acting is what sustains his passion for the craft.

Interestingly, before his debut, the engineering student Zhang Linghe once considered careers in China’s national power utility or civil service as his ideal path. However, after exploring the acting world, he realized it offered a much broader perspective on life and society than he had ever imagined. While he acknowledges that his visuals boost his confidence and help attract audiences, he admits they can also be a double-edged sword as viewers sometimes focus more on looks than emotion.
Regarding external evaluations, Zhang Linghe stated that he listens to advice but remains firm in his own artistic path and personal growth. He emphasized the importance of a professional actor continuously improving their skills to let their roles speak for themselves rather than relying on external hype or appearances. Looking ahead, he expressed a keen interest in portraying professional roles such as police officers or lawyers to further explore different facets of human life through his work.
Ultimately, Zhang Linghe’s goal is not just to be a fleeting sensation but to leave behind a representative work that defines an era. He hopes that audiences will remember his characters long after the projects end, prioritizing the impact of his roles over personal fame. This ambition reflects his personal professional motto: “If the true self is lost, how can there be art?”
