LayarHijau– The Chinese film and television analytics platform Yunhe Data has released new statistics that quickly drew widespread attention. As of March 11, 2026, since the platform was established in 2017, only seven dramas have managed to surpass the remarkable 40 percent daily market share threshold across all online streaming platforms.

In China’s entertainment industry, a 40 percent daily market share on Yunhe Data is often considered the “ceiling” of a drama’s popularity. The figure not only reflects extremely high viewing numbers but also indicates that the drama captured massive public attention nationwide.

In practical terms, reaching that level means the drama dominated nearly half of all drama viewership across the internet on a given day. In other words, out of every two dramas being watched online that day, one of them was that particular series.

Recently, the historical romance drama Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) reached a daily market share of 41.1 percent. This achievement places the series—starring Tian Xiwei and Zhang Linghe—among the extremely rare dramas that have crossed the 40 percent threshold since Yunhe Data began tracking viewership.

Over the past nine years, only six other dramas have managed to reach that level. According to Yunhe Data, the titles that have surpassed a 40 percent market share include:

Joy of Life 2 (庆余年2) – 55 percent

This Thriving Land (胜万物) – 46.1 percent

My Heroic Husband (赘婿) – 41.8 percent

Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼 / Xu Wo Yao Yan) – 41.7 percent

The Legend of Zang Hai (藏海传) – 40.1 percent

Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) – 41.1 percent

With this result, Pursuit of Jade becomes the seventh—and most recent—drama to enter this exclusive list.

Many viewers may wonder why reaching 40 percent is so difficult. Yunhe Data calculates market share based on effective view counts across all platforms, removing invalid clicks and manipulated traffic. This method is designed to reflect the real popularity of a drama as well as genuine audience engagement.

As a result, when a drama crosses that threshold, it means the show is truly dominating attention across the entire streaming landscape.

The success of Pursuit of Jade did not happen by chance. Since its premiere, the drama has quickly attracted viewers and experienced rapid growth in popularity across multiple platforms. By its second day of release, the drama’s viewership reportedly surpassed the viewing numbers achieved by the hit series The Knockout during its first four days.

The story of Pursuit of Jade follows Fan Changyu, a strong-willed female butcher, and Xie Zheng, a fallen nobleman. The two enter a marriage first and gradually develop genuine feelings for each other while navigating a turbulent era.

The drama has also gained attention for offering a different approach compared to many historical romance series in recent years. Its storyline is considered more grounded, with character relationships that develop naturally over time. The interactions between the two leads involve strategy, trust, and emotional growth.

The strong on-screen chemistry between the two main actors has also helped the series attract a large fan base. With characters that avoid typical clichés and a layered narrative, the drama feels fresh to many viewers.

Although the later part of the series sparked some criticism over slower pacing and debate surrounding viewership data, its massive audience base still supported the drama in surpassing the 40 percent market share mark.

The phenomenon once again highlights how rare it is for a drama to achieve such a level of popularity. In nearly a decade, only seven dramas have managed to reach that milestone.

Interestingly, these titles share a common trait: a strong focus on storytelling and production quality rather than relying solely on star power or heavy promotion. From the crime story in The Knockout to historical productions like The Legend of Zang Hai and Pursuit of Jade, each success reinforces the idea that compelling content remains the key factor behind a drama’s breakthrough popularity.

With Pursuit of Jade joining this exclusive list, many observers believe the achievement also brings renewed momentum to the historical romance genre, proving that well-crafted storytelling and engaging characters can still capture massive audience attention in China’s entertainment market.
