In the drama, Tian Xiwei delivers her dialogue using her own voice. Her delivery is firm and emotional, while the transition in her expressions—from an initially innocent demeanor to a determined and resolute personality—feels natural and convincing. Her action scenes are also noted for their intensity, with movements that appear fluid and powerful.
Many viewers commented that her performance feels so vivid that it is hard to believe she is the same actress once associated mainly with sweet and playful roles. On social media, numerous posts praised her convincing portrayal of the character. Some viewers even said that the moment Fan Changyu appeared on screen, they immediately felt confident about the drama’s quality.
While her action scenes are described as thrilling, her emotional scenes are considered equally powerful. Tian Xiwei is praised for conveying deep emotions through both her dialogue and facial expressions. In moments when her character confronts enemies or interacts with someone she loves, her delivery makes the emotions feel especially authentic.
One scene that has drawn particular attention shows Fan Changyu shouting in the rain while vowing to take revenge. Her voice sounds hoarse and nearly cracks, yet that raw intensity made the moment even more moving for many viewers. The scene is widely seen as a demonstration of Tian Xiwei’s ability to portray powerful emotions on screen.
Beyond dialogue, her subtle facial expressions have also become a major highlight. From the sudden shock in her eyes when discovering the truth to the small, restless movements of her hands during moments of hesitation, even the slightest changes help convey the character’s inner feelings.
The fight sequences in Pursuit of Jade are another major attraction of the drama. Fan Changyu is shown wielding a sword in fast-paced battles, leaping through the air with agility, and even shooting arrows accurately while riding on horseback. In some scenes, she also faces physically stronger opponents without appearing outmatched.
To prepare for the role, Tian Xiwei reportedly underwent intensive training for several months before filming began. She spent long hours practicing martial arts movements to ensure the action scenes would look convincing on screen.
According to the production team, one fight scene filmed near a cliff had to be repeated many times before the final take was completed. Despite the physical demands of the sequence, Tian Xiwei continued filming with determination in order to achieve the best possible result.
Her dedication has earned the respect of many viewers, with some calling her transformation in this drama one of the most striking developments in her career so far.
Fan Changyu in Pursuit of Jade is therefore seen as an important milestone for Tian Xiwei as an actress. For years, she had often been associated with the image of an actress suited mainly for sweet romantic roles. Through this performance, however, she demonstrates that she can also handle more complex characters filled with action and emotional depth.
As a result, many viewers now see her in a new light. Some even believe that her acting ability has reached a new level, opening the door for greater opportunities in the Chinese drama industry.
