LayarHijau – The latest Chinese short drama starring veteran actress Liu Xiaoqing, Splendid Tranquility (锦绣安然), has ignited heated debate since its premiere on February 25, 2026. At 71 years old, Liu Xiaoqing portrays a young woman, including intimate and kissing scenes with a male co-star who is 47 years younger, a detail that quickly went viral on social media.
Liu Xiaoqing is widely recognized for her recent role in the popular costume drama The Prisoner of Beauty, where she played Madam Xu, the grandmother of the male lead Wei Shao, portrayed by Liu Yuning. Her dignified portrayal of a powerful matriarch in a large-scale production makes her transformation into a youthful romantic lead in this short drama particularly striking for many viewers.

The controversy intensified when supporting actor Gu Yanshou was reported to have liked a netizen’s comment describing acting alongside Liu Xiaoqing as a “work injury.” Although he later claimed it was an accidental tap and stated that it was “an honor to work with Sister Xiaoqing,” the incident drew further attention to behind-the-scenes dynamics.
On February 26, media outlets also reported that the widely discussed kissing scene in Splendid Tranquility (锦绣安然) was added by the screenwriter at the last minute. Liu Xiaoqing reportedly questioned whether it needed to be “that serious” upon learning about the addition. In behind-the-scenes footage circulating online, she is seen attempting to hug her co-star, only to be gently stopped as the actor says, “Sister, let me hug you instead.”
Splendid Tranquility (锦绣安然) is a historical-themed Chinese short drama that premiered on February 25, 2026, on the Hongguo platform. Each episode runs approximately two minutes, with a total of 80 episodes. In February 2026, Liu Xiaoqing’s kissing scene with a much younger male actor became a trending topic. She is among the earlier established film and television actors to enter the short drama market, having previously starred in several vertical-format productions such as Fifty-Year-Old Marriage Pet: Adorable Baby Assists (萌宝助攻：五十岁婚宠).
The drama tells the story of a female weaver striving to revive her family’s ancestral embroidery techniques in a male-dominated business environment. After her family is falsely accused, the protagonist uses the inherited manual “Zhen Pu Yao Lue” along with her business acumen to form an alliance of female artisans, ultimately bringing intangible cultural heritage embroidery back into the public spotlight.
