Beyond television, both stars are widely recognized for their long-term collaboration with the French luxury cosmetics brand Lancôme. For three consecutive years, Zhang Linghe and Zhang Jingyi have appeared together in the brand’s promotional films. Their natural chemistry in various campaigns, including a Valentine’s Day release themed “First You, Then Us,” led netizens to jokingly call the brand the ultimate “matchmaker” and express hopes of seeing them paired in a drama project.
Now, circulating rumors suggest that those hopes may come true through the costume drama Ci Tang. The project is said to be directed by Yi Jun, who previously worked with Zhang Linghe on the Republican-era drama Overdo.
While Zhang Linghe is rumored to have nearly confirmed his participation, Zhang Jingyi is reportedly still in negotiations and has not officially signed a contract. The speculation quickly spread across social media, triggering lively discussions among fans.
However, behind the excitement lies potential sensitivity. In the past, tensions surfaced among fans regarding the two stars’ ambassador status with Lancôme. Some of Zhang Linghe’s supporters voiced dissatisfaction over perceived differences in brand positioning, which led to online debates at the time.
As a result, if this drama collaboration materializes, some observers believe that clear communication from the production team and management agencies will be essential to prevent similar friction in the future.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding Zhang Jingyi’s involvement in Ci Tang. Fans are still waiting for a formal announcement to see whether the on-screen pairing they have long anticipated will finally become a reality.
