LayarHijau – The popular online gaming platform, Roblox, has officially been banned in Egypt, adding the country to a growing list of nations implementing similar restrictions despite the platform’s massive global reach. Roblox boasts billions of registered players worldwide. In September 2025 alone, the platform reportedly recorded over 100 million daily active users.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, the ban in Egypt was instructed by the country’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation. This decision follows previous widespread calls for regulatory action.
Egyptian Senator, Walaa Hermas Radwanid, had previously called for the regulation of Roblox. He voiced specific concerns regarding the game’s impact on children’s morals and educational values, alongside the risks associated with direct communication between minors and strangers.
Roblox has recently revised its security restrictions. These efforts include limiting communication between age groups and mandating age verification through video selfies.
Responding to the prohibition, Roblox issued a statement asserting that its platform uses protections that “go above and beyond many other platforms.” The company is currently trying to contact Egyptian authorities to restore platform access, adding that they are ready to cooperate to resolve the issues identified by the government.
The Egyptian ban is not an isolated case; the platform has been restricted in several other nations. In 2025 alone, Algeria, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, and Russia imposed bans on Roblox. Other countries that previously banned Roblox include North Korea and Turkey. Nevertheless, Roblox successfully reversed bans in Jordan and Kuwait, suggesting a potential path for similar negotiations in Egypt.
In addition to international disputes, Roblox also faces legal issues in its home country, the United States. In 2025, a family filed a lawsuit after a 13-year-old child was allegedly kidnapped by an individual they encountered within the game. Furthermore, the states of Louisiana, Texas, and Kentucky individually filed lawsuits against the developer regarding child safety concerns on the platform. The primary concern Roblox often faces revolves around the potential for online interaction between adults and minors.
Some competing games managed to reverse total bans by censoring or removing content deemed offensive, a measure Roblox may consider applying in Egypt.
