LayarHijau – The mystery-romance drama Dear X, starring Kim Yoo Jung and Kim Young Dae, has captured attention from the very first episode. Adapted from the hit webtoon of the same name, the series tells the story of Baek Ah-jin, a top actress with an antisocial personality. Beneath her flawless public image lies a dark past and a self no one truly knows. Only a few episodes in, Dear X has already emerged as one of the strongest dark horses of late 2025. Here are six reasons why viewers can’t stop watching.
Kim Yoo Jung’s Performance Shatters Expectations
Known for her sweet, soft image, Kim Yoo Jung takes a bold leap with her portrayal of Baek Ah-jin—a woman suffering from antisocial personality disorder. Because the webtoon explores taboo elements such as step-sibling relationships, school violence, infidelity, and disturbing family conflicts, the public was initially shocked by her casting. Yet that surprise became her greatest strength. Her performance doesn’t just break stereotypes—it redefines them.

In an interview, Kim Yoo Jung shared that she aimed to express Ah-jin’s inner world through her eyes. During filming, she even practiced “not blinking” to maintain the character’s chilling intensity. The director praised her for it, and audiences have been mesmerized by how she commands emotion through a single stare—revealing a completely new side of her acting talent.
The Allure of a ‘Dangerous Woman’ Who Controls Emotions Like a Weapon
Baek Ah-jin grew up with an uncanny ability to read—and manipulate—people’s emotions. As a child, she could twist situations to her advantage, even turning her gentle act into a weapon against her stepmother and using her innocence to make her stepbrother, Yoon Jun-seo, take her side. As an adult, Ah-jin continues to wield her beauty and charm with surgical precision. She knows when to appear fragile, when to strike with sharp words, and how to make anyone do her bidding. It’s no wonder viewers have crowned her “the most charismatic emotional manipulator” in K-drama history.
Explosive Chemistry in Every Relationship
Because Ah-jin is so skilled at captivating those around her, she becomes entangled with several men at different stages of her life: her protective stepbrother, a naive yet possessive high school friend, and a top actor she meets later in her career. Each pairing (or “CP,” as fans call them) brings a unique emotional dynamic—some tender but dangerous, others emotionally charged and volatile. Viewers admit they’ve only seen four episodes yet are already torn between all three couples.
A Story Rich in Layers and Emotion
Every scene in Dear X carries weight. The story begins with Ah-jin’s high school years, where she brings down her enemies but still shows a trace of moral boundaries. She once dreamed of becoming a lawyer. But years of enduring her abusive father slowly strip away her innocence, turning her into someone fearless—and ruthless. Through this steady psychological shift, audiences witness how pain and trauma shape her into the woman she becomes. That evolution is what keeps viewers addicted, episode after episode.
Kim Young Dae’s Tense and Tender Portrayal of the Stepbrother Bond
Kim Young Dae delivers a powerful performance as Yoon Jun-seo, Ah-jin’s stepbrother. As a boy, Jun-seo watched helplessly as his mother mistreated Ah-jin and has lived with guilt ever since. From that guilt grows something deeper—a forbidden affection that blurs the line between love and remorse. Though morally complex, Kim Young Dae plays Jun-seo with such sincerity that the audience can’t condemn him. His chemistry with Kim Yoo Jung is palpable and charged with emotion, leaving viewers unable to look away.
Exposing the Dark Side of the Korean Entertainment Industry
From its opening scene, Dear X wastes no time. Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo Jung), a girl with antisocial tendencies, grows into a top actress who seems perfect in the spotlight—while hiding a dangerous edge behind her smile. The story then flashes back to her teenage years, showing how she orchestrated the downfall of her rival, Shin Seung-hee, in a calculated act of vengeance. It’s from that moment viewers realize Dear X is not just a school drama—it’s a sharp reflection of a world driven by cruelty and manipulation.
The narrative will soon shift from high school to the far more ruthless world of show business. Ah-jin’s opponents will no longer be classmates, but adults clawing for power, fame, and survival. The series promises to peel back the glittering façade of the entertainment industry—revealing how agencies manufacture false images, control public opinion, and exploit scandals to boost their stars’ fame.
Dear X isn’t just a revenge story—it’s a chilling portrayal of ambition and image-making in the celebrity world. If the high school arc was already this gripping, the upcoming chapters set in the entertainment arena are bound to leave audiences even more addicted.
