LayarHijau — South Korean actress Kim Yoo-jung is drawing heavy discussion among Chinese netizens on Weibo after videos and photos circulated from a film premiere in Hong Kong. The event in question was a special premiere of the film Brunello: The Gracious Visionary in Hong Kong. Kim Yoo-jung and actor Park Hyung-sik attended on October 24. The film tells the story of Brunello Cucinelli, the 73-year-old founder of the Brunello Cucinelli brand, and was directed by Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore.
The allegation began with a Weibo blogger’s post that was picked up by the news portal Sina. The blogger claimed the founder kept his hand on Kim Yoo-jung’s back and the side of her waist for an extended time during the photo session, beyond normal social distance. Another post described Kim’s body as looking stiff and her expression as awkward. These assessments come from netizens and bloggers, not from Kim Yoo-jung herself. LayarHijau has not been able to independently verify them.
Some netizens also linked the matter to a similar event in Shanghai on October 22, which coincided with the film’s premiere there. According to the portal Sohu, the founder was said to have held actress Liu Tao by the upper arm, with his hand seen at her shoulder and waist. Footage was also said to have captured a moment that allegedly involved contact near her chest. LayarHijau cannot confirm whether Liu Tao was actually touched in the chest area or whether it only looks that way because of the camera angle. Liu Tao has not made a statement. Netizens also pointed to actress Chen Duling at the same event. However, other Weibo posts described it differently, saying the founder helped Chen Duling up onto the stage and straightened her gown, which they viewed as courteous and a sign of respect.
Sohu reported that all of the discussion rests on footage and photos from the venue, with no statements from the parties involved, no statement from the brand, and no official notice. Some netizens have also alleged similar conduct at earlier events.
The videos and photos are indeed circulating on Weibo and show physical contact between the two, but LayarHijau cannot confirm whether Kim Yoo-jung felt uncomfortable or harassed.
Kim Yoo-jung has served as the face of the brand for two consecutive seasons. South Korean media that LayarHijau reviewed have so far reported only on her departure and outfits for the event, without mentioning the allegation. No coverage of the issue by international media has been found. The film itself is scheduled to open in South Korean theaters on October 28.
