LayarHijau – The 2025 period short drama The Tower of Whispers (三更雪) has become a hot topic among Chinese audiences for its intense revenge plot and powerful performances. Starring He Landou as Lu Yingying, the daughter of the Minister of Rites who is wrongfully killed in her past life, and Deng Xiaoci as Jun Che, a once-feared ruler now reduced to slavery, the story follows Lu Yingying’s rebirth and her plan for vengeance. After buying Jun Che as her servant, she becomes entangled in a web of court intrigue and power struggles that reveal deep secrets. The drama spans 12 episodes, each around 15 minutes long, streaming on iQIYI and Tencent Video.
Chinese viewers have praised the show’s fast-paced storytelling and gratifying revenge arcs. Many called Lu Yingying’s sharp transformation—from an innocent, wronged lady to a calculating, cold strategist—“thrilling to watch.” Deng Xiaoci’s portrayal of Jun Che as a tormented yet devoted antihero also received high praise, with fans highlighting the intense chemistry between the leads. On iQIYI, the drama reached a peak heat index of 4651 and topped the short-drama charts for 12 consecutive days. Comments such as “as gripping as a full-length series” and “impossible to stop watching” flooded social media platforms.

Still, The Tower of Whispers was not without its critics. Some Chinese viewers pointed out that the shift from hatred to love between the main characters felt abrupt, making parts of the story emotionally inconsistent. Others criticized certain plot mechanisms—such as the logic behind death and reincarnation—as weakening the overall narrative depth. The show’s early tension and political intrigue, which captivated audiences at first, were also said to lose some momentum toward the end.
Despite its flaws, The Tower of Whispers remains one of the most talked-about short dramas of 2025 in China. With its striking performances, strong visuals, and addictive pacing, the series successfully delivers a mix of passion, revenge, and destiny that keeps audiences hooked from start to finish.
