LayarHijau.com – Chinese actress Huang Shengyi, best known for starring in Stephen Chow’s 2004 hit Kung Fu Hustle, recently drew attention after appearing with her mother on the reality show Be Daughters and Mothers 2. In a surprising revelation, she shared details about her secret marriage to wealthy businessman Yang Zi.
In the latest episode, it was revealed that Huang married Yang Zi in 2007 at the age of 24—without informing her parents. Her mother only learned about the marriage through a TV news report, not directly from her daughter.

“I found out from the TV station, and I happened to be away from Shanghai at the time. I was very surprised why she chose someone like that,” her mother said, clearly expressing her disapproval of Yang Zi.
Huang defended her decision, saying that she had been making her own life choices since turning 18. “Because I had many objective considerations, I didn’t feel my marriage was some romantic fairytale. At that stage in life, he seemed like the most suitable choice among many factors,” she explained.
However, her decision to marry first and explain later had unexpected consequences. Her mother admitted to losing many friends due to the social pressure and media attention. “My friends kept asking questions. I was really upset. Many of them work in the media, so they would talk and ask, ‘I saw your daughter online, is she in Shanghai?’ I was annoyed and ended up losing many friendships,” she shared.
According to HK.on.cc, the confession sparked heated discussion online, with netizens reflecting on strained family ties and the emotional toll of sudden decisions.
While the couple managed to stay together for many years, Huang Shengyi and Yang Zi officially ended their marriage in early 2025. They made the announcement in another reality show, See You Again 4. In the reunion episode aired in January, both confirmed the split, with Yang Zi reportedly handing over a large portion of his personal assets to Huang as part of an amicable settlement.
Now, Huang lives independently and remains active in the entertainment industry. She also shared that she is open to the possibility of love and marriage again in the future.
