LayarHijau — Wu Lei and Tan Jianci have landed Best Actor nominations at the 39th Golden Rooster Awards, where they’ll be competing against Hong Kong veteran Tony Leung Ka-fai. The jury’s nomination list was announced on Monday (October 19, 2026). The Golden Rooster Awards remain one of the most prestigious film honors in China.
Wu Lei earned his nomination for The Decisive Moment (群星闪耀时), a sci-fi film that unfolds across two timelines — 1970 and 2035. He plays Zhao Jihu, a young aerospace researcher in 1970 whose character decodes a mysterious signal from the future that becomes the only hope for three astronauts stranded in space in 2035. Directed by Zhang Disha, the film also stars Huang Bo, Gao Ye, and Sun Yang.

Tan Jianci is in the running for Sound of Silence (震耳欲聋), a crime drama that opened in China on October 4, 2025. He plays Li Qi, a lawyer raised in a deaf family who gets pulled into a fraud case targeting the deaf community. The film marks Wan Li’s directorial debut and is partly inspired by the true story of lawyer Zhang Qi.
Their toughest competition comes from Tony Leung Ka-fai, nominated for his role as Fu Longsheng in The Shadow’s Edge (捕风追影). He plays a criminal mastermind who has been on the run for more than 20 years. Directed by Larry Yang, the film co-stars Jackie Chan as a tracking specialist called back into service and Zhang Zifeng as a young police officer. Leung previously won Best Actor at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards for the same role.
Rounding out the five Best Actor nominees are Jiang Long, nominated for his performance as Zhang Xiaobing in Being Toward Death (10间敢死队), and Jiang Qiming, nominated for playing Li Mingqi in Take Off (飞行家).

Once Upon a Time in the Middle East (欢迎来龙餐馆), directed by Wen Muye and starring Shen Teng and Jiang Qiming, did not make the nominations. The film opened in China on August 11, 2026. On October 7, the filmmakers announced it would represent mainland China in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. Its absence from the Golden Rooster list is reportedly tied to its release date falling past the eligibility cutoff, though organizers have yet to confirm this.
