LayarHijau — Xu Ruohan has responded to viewer criticism of the storyline in The Lament of Autumn (玉簟秋). In an interview with Sohu Entertainment, she asked viewers to give the drama more time.
The romance drama, set in 1920s Republican-era China, stars Cheng Lei and Xu Ruohan. Cheng Lei plays Yu Changxuan, the fifth son of the Yu family and a young marshal who hides careful calculation behind a carefree appearance. Xu Ruohan plays Ye Pingjun, a female student from a poor family who takes a job to pay for her mother’s medical treatment.

Some viewers have questioned Ye Pingjun’s decision to stay with Yu Changxuan after witnessing her friend’s murder. Xu Ruohan said she had read the comments and addressed them.
“I saw the comments, so I want to clarify here. Many people ask, why does the female lead, who watched her friend get killed, still decide to be with this man? Viewers feel confused and puzzled, and some even find it hard to accept and stop watching. But what I want to say is that only the first few episodes cause this misunderstanding. The reality is not like that. Please keep watching slowly until the later episodes. Please give The Lament of Autumn more time, because the story gets very complicated later on,” Xu Ruohan said.
She also offered a small spoiler about how the two characters’ relationship develops. “Let me give a small spoiler: later on, Ye Pingjun and Yu Changxuan still move toward each other. I think that’s how it is between two people who love each other. There may be many misunderstandings between you, but if you are meant to be, you will end up together in the end,” she said.
