LayarHijau – Chinese costume drama Sonder: I’m Not NPC (Sonder·我不是NPC), Zhao Lusi’s first project as a supervising producer, is set to premiere exclusively on Douyin on October 11, 2026, at 7 p.m. China Standard Time. The drama stars Wei Xiao, Hou Ben, Bao Jieyi, and Zhou Zhiyi, newcomers from Zhao Lusi’s studio and her close circle.
The story follows four women who discover that they are merely non-player characters (NPCs) in a fictional world. They join forces to change their fates and take control of their own lives. Zhao Lusi’s father, known as Zhao Ge, will also make a cameo appearance as a general.

The first season consists of five episodes, each running approximately 40 minutes. During a livestream, Zhao Lusi explained that the project was planned as a five-episode series, with any continuation depending on audience feedback.
Four Stories About Women Who Refuse to Remain NPCs
Sonder: I’m Not NPC comprises four standalone stories: Bao Wei Chu (宝魏处), Yi Zhou You Ba Tian (一周有八天), Bao Mao Zhuan (包猫传), and Zhe Ge Leng Gong Bu Tai Leng (这个冷宫不太冷).
All four stories explore the lives of women in a fictional costume-drama world who discover that they are NPCs. Rather than remain background characters in someone else’s story, they choose to work together to rewrite their destinies.
The drama’s central message is: “Don’t be an NPC in the world. Be the protagonist of your own story.”
This theme sets the project apart from many short dramas that focus on powerful CEOs, reincarnation, or revenge against people who have humiliated the main characters.
Zhao Lusi has chosen female empowerment as the central theme of the project. She has also explained that the series is planned for five episodes, with a potential continuation depending on audience response.
Some observers view the project as an experiment to test Zhao Lusi’s content choices and her ability to mentor newcomers, rather than simply an attempt to make quick money.

Zhao Lusi is also reported to have granted the screenwriter full writing credits and the right to share in the project’s profits.
