LayarHijau – Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s hand-holding moment in a video that went viral on social media has sparked debate among netizens. On Weibo, some initially believed the moment was a spontaneous gesture between the two actors backstage before they joined the livestream for The Early Spring’s finale event in Beijing on September 13, 2026.
In the video, Jing Boran can be seen standing in front of Sun Qian, who is positioned directly behind him. The two then appear to hold hands in a position that is partially hidden from the cameras. Because the moment looks natural and happens briefly, some viewers assumed that the two had spontaneously held hands before the livestream began.

Some Netizens Question the Interaction
That assumption prompted negative reactions from some netizens, who questioned whether physical interactions between the two leads outside the drama could still be considered part of The Early Spring’s promotional activities.
The discussion also brought Jing Boran’s personal life into the conversation. The actor is publicly known to be in a relationship, leading some netizens to question how Liu Wen might feel about the interaction.
One circulating comment essentially asked, “How would Liu Wen feel seeing this?” The comment also argued that secretly holding hands had gone beyond what should be considered a normal interaction for drama promotion.
Other netizens raised a broader question about the standards applied to this type of fan service between male and female co-stars. They questioned whether affectionate interactions would still be considered part of promotional activities if the male actor were already married.
As a result, the debate was not only about the video of Jing Boran and Sun Qian, but also about where the line should be drawn between fan service, on-screen chemistry, and an actor’s personal life.
Fans Defend Jing Boran and Sun Qian
Fans, meanwhile, came to Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s defense. They argued that The Early Spring’s finale event was part of the drama’s promotional activities and fan engagement, making it reasonable for the two actors to maintain some of the chemistry between their characters, Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao.
For fans, the relationship between the two characters is one of the drama’s major attractions. Their interactions during the fan meeting were therefore seen as a way of bringing some of that chemistry back to viewers after the drama’s conclusion.
Fans also pointed to several other interactions between Jing Boran and Sun Qian during previous events, including Jing Boran carrying Sun Qian, putting an arm around her waist, and touching noses with her.
The two were also seen communicating with each other before engaging in some physical interactions during previous events. This led some fans to praise Jing Boran for appearing to respect his co-star’s boundaries and comfort.
For these fans, the chemistry between Jing Boran and Sun Qian should not automatically be linked to their personal lives. They viewed the interactions within the context of drama promotion and the relationship between the characters viewers had followed throughout The Early Spring.
However, the hand-holding video continued to attract attention because the short clip made the interaction look like a private moment taking place discreetly backstage.
The Actual Context Behind the Hand-Holding Moment
The actual context of the video shows that Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s hand-holding moment was part of a scenario during the livestream, rather than a spontaneous gesture between the two before the event began.
During the livestream, the host gave the cast a scenario set in the Lingmei staff break room, the company where Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao work in the drama.
The other actors also played Lingmei employees. Liu Xiaobei, Zhang Yezi, and Qi Tianqing portrayed employees at the company, while Jing Boran and Sun Qian remained in character as Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao.
In the scenario, the other cast members pretended to gossip about their suspicions that Luke and Flora had a suspicious relationship. They discussed several things they considered signs of their closeness, including the fact that they drank from the same glass and appeared to have the same dog fur on their clothes.
As the scenario unfolded, Jing Boran, playing Luan Nian, stood in front while Sun Qian, playing Shang Zhi Tao, stood behind him.
It was during this part of the scenario that Jing Boran and Sun Qian were seen holding hands in the position shown in the viral video.
This means the moment that some netizens initially perceived as a spontaneous or secret interaction before the livestream was actually part of the scenario given to the cast by the host during the livestream.
The misunderstanding arose because the clip circulating on social media did not show the full context of the scene. When viewers only saw Jing Boran and Sun Qian holding hands without knowing what scenario they were performing, it was easy to interpret the moment as a private interaction backstage.
The Moment Echoes Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao’s Relationship
The moment also cannot be separated from the chemistry between Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao in The Early Spring. In the drama, the two characters have been in a secret relationship for six years.
One of the most memorable scenes takes place inside an elevator. While several other people are still inside, Luan Nian stands behind Shang Zhi Tao and secretly tries to hold her hand. She rejects him.
After the others leave, Luan Nian stands in front of Shang Zhi Tao, presses the button to close the elevator doors, then stands beside her and holds her hand.
Another memorable moment takes place in an underground parking garage. As Luan Nian walks ahead, Shang Zhi Tao quietly reaches out and holds his hand.
The similarity between those scenes and Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s interaction during the livestream made the viral video even more interesting to fans.
Ultimately, the debate surrounding the viral moment was largely fueled by a short clip circulating without its full context. Once the livestream scenario is taken into account, it becomes clear that Jing Boran and Sun Qian were performing as Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao rather than simply sharing a spontaneous secret moment backstage.
Editor’s Note: Update September 15, 2026: This article has been revised to clarify the chronology of the incident shown in the viral video of Jing Boran and Sun Qian holding hands. Based on the livestream context, the moment was part of a scenario given to the cast by the host, set in the Lingmei staff break room.
