The Early Spring has surpassed 800 million views and secured more than 100 advertising partnerships. For a 24-episode drama, those numbers are an impressive achievement, making the series one of the biggest dark horses of this summer.
Before their breakup, Shang Zhitao was already going through an extremely difficult period. Her close friend and roommate, Sun Yuanzhu, died by suicide, while she also failed to receive a promotion at work. When she asked Luan Nian whether he had evaluated her fairly during the promotion process, he avoided giving her a direct answer.
Luan Nian’s response led Shang Zhitao to believe that he was responsible for her failed promotion. Heartbroken, she left the company and returned to her hometown of Harbin, where she decided to start her own business.
What Shang Zhitao did not know was that Luan Nian was unaware she planned to resign. Their workplace romance had been discovered by the company, so Luan Nian voluntarily requested a transfer to the United States to allow Shang Zhitao to continue working in Beijing.
After their breakup, Luan Nian focused on preparing for his move to the U.S. One day, however, he returned to the office and discovered that Shang Zhitao’s desk had already been cleared out. He also learned around the same time about Sun Yuanzhu’s death, finally realizing just how much Shang Zhitao had been dealing with.
During their time apart, Luan Nian finally came to terms with how deeply he loved Shang Zhitao. After she established her new company in Harbin, he repeatedly flew there to pursue her and try to win her back.
Even during the pandemic, Luan Nian used his personal connections to bring business to Shang Zhitao’s company. He also became her personal driver and took care of various errands for her. His actions gradually moved Shang Zhitao and softened her heart toward him again.
One night, Shang Zhitao could not sleep. After hearing noises from her room, Luan Nian came out to check on her. Their emotions quickly took over, and the two spent the night together before officially rekindling their relationship.
The next morning brought an amusing encounter when Shang Zhitao’s father arrived at her home. Luan Nian walked out of the bedroom wearing only a tank top and deliberately greeted her father. He then sat down with Shang Zhitao’s parents and confidently told them that he would take responsibility for their daughter.
“If we’re going to get married, we can do it anytime,” Luan Nian said, immediately winning over his future in-laws.
Their relationship soon became even more serious. Shang Zhitao’s new company became a new business partner of Lingmei, while Luan Nian openly began calling her his “wife.”
For his proposal, Luan Nian went all out. He created the “Shang Zhitao Space-Time Museum,” filling it with photographs and memories documenting their relationship. He also invited their friends and family to witness the special moment.
With the help of their dog, Luke, who delivered a large diamond ring, Luan Nian got down on one knee and proposed.
“Shang Zhitao, will you marry me?”
Their friend Lumi, played by Zhang Yezi, even joked that Shang Zhitao should accept the proposal immediately, quipping that she should take advantage of the opportunity and secure half of his fortune.
The emotional yet hilarious finale left viewers in tears, especially after Luan Nian and Shang Zhitao had spent four years apart. Their story ultimately came to a romantic and satisfying conclusion, with the couple finally getting the happy ending they had been waiting for.
