LayarHijau– Miles Wei and Liu Xiening’s new Chinese drama, Blossom Through the Cloud (《飞到我心上》), premiered on August 31, 2026. While the pairing has generated plenty of interest, early reviews from Chinese viewers have also pointed out two weaknesses that could make it difficult for the drama to become a major hit.
Miles Wei is best known for popular dramas such as You Are My Secret (《私藏浪漫》) and Flourished Peony (《国色芳华》). In Blossom Through the Cloud, he returns to the modern romance genre as Fu Mingyu (傅明予), an executive at an airline company.

Liu Xiening plays Ruan Sixian (阮思娴), a flight attendant who dreams of becoming a pilot. The drama has also attracted attention because it marks the third time Miles Wei and Liu Xiening have worked on the same project, following Only for Love (《以爱为营》) and Lady Revenger Returns from the Fire (《披荆斩棘的大小姐》). In both previous dramas, however, they were not paired as the main couple.
Blossom Through the Cloud follows Ruan Sixian, a flight attendant at Hengshi Airlines who is determined to become a pilot. When the airline puts its pilot training program on hold, she looks for another way to pursue her dream.
Her opportunity comes when Fu Mingyu, the company’s vice president, boards one of her flights. Ruan Sixian writes a letter to apply for a chance to enter the pilot training program.
Their first encounter, however, quickly goes off the rails. When the plane hits turbulence, Ruan Sixian falls and ends up sitting on Fu Mingyu. He misreads the situation and assumes that she became a flight attendant because she wants to marry the boss.
Fu Mingyu also mistakes her application letter for a love letter. Feeling insulted and misunderstood, Ruan Sixian becomes furious and quits her job.
Rather than giving up on her dream, Ruan Sixian enrolls in flight school. She graduates at the top of her class and eventually becomes a highly sought-after pilot.
Fu Mingyu then tries to recruit her back to the company, but Ruan Sixian is still upset over the way he treated her in the past and firmly rejects his offer.
Her determination makes Fu Mingyu see her in a different light, and his attitude toward her gradually changes. Their relationship slowly develops from friction and misunderstandings into romantic feelings.
Early reviews from Chinese viewers have been mixed. Some viewers appreciate the drama’s fast pace and the fact that the conflict between the leads begins almost immediately. Others, however, feel that the early misunderstanding between the two characters is too clichéd, especially because it could have been resolved through a simple conversation.
The second criticism concerns Miles Wei’s character. Fu Mingyu is once again portrayed as a successful, handsome and dominant man who eventually falls for the female lead. Because Miles Wei has played similar roles in modern romance dramas before, some viewers feel that the character does not offer him enough room to show a different side of his acting.
Some viewers have even compared his performance in Blossom Through the Cloud with his role in You Are My Secret (《私藏浪漫》), arguing that Fu Mingyu still falls within a familiar character type for the actor.
Still, the early response to Blossom Through the Cloud is far from entirely negative. Many viewers are enjoying the fast-moving storyline, the tension between Ruan Sixian and Fu Mingyu, and Ruan Sixian’s journey as she works toward becoming a pilot.
With the romance kicking off amid immediate conflict and Ruan Sixian’s career ambitions providing another major storyline, the episodes ahead will determine whether Blossom Through the Cloud can overcome the early criticism and keep viewers hooked.
