LayarHijau – Chinese urban romance drama The Early Spring (早春晴朗) officially premiered today and is streaming on Netflix alongside its domestic release. The series follows a secret romance between a boss and his subordinate in Beijing’s advertising industry.
Ahead of its premiere, The Early Spring (早春晴朗) attracted attention over rumors about the age difference between its two leads. Jing Boran, who is 37, was reportedly believed to be 16 years older than Sun Qian. If that claim had been true, Sun Qian would have been only around 21.

The rumor led some netizens to mock the pairing as an “uncle-and-niece romance,” or “叔姪戀.” It also prompted some fans of the original novel to question whether Jing Boran and Sun Qian were the right choices for their respective roles.
The 16-Year Age Gap Rumor Was Based on a Casting Mix-Up
The claim that Jing Boran and Sun Qian are 16 years apart does not reflect their actual ages. Jing Boran was born in 1989, while Sun Qian was born in 1997.
Their real age gap is therefore just eight years. Sun Qian is 29, rather than the roughly 21-year-old age suggested by the rumor.
The misunderstanding reportedly originated from casting news during the early development of The Early Spring (早春晴朗). Another actor had previously been linked to the male lead, and the reported 16-year age gap was later mistakenly associated with Jing Boran and Sun Qian.
In reality, their eight-year age difference is much closer to the dynamic of the characters they portray.
Jing Boran plays Luan Nian, a seasoned creative director with years of experience in the advertising industry. Sun Qian stars as Shang Zhi Tao, a young woman who moves to Beijing to build her career.
Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s Chemistry Wins Over Viewers
The contrast in age and experience between their characters is an important part of their dynamic. Jing Boran portrays Luan Nian as sharp-tongued, commanding, and firmly established in his career.
Sun Qian, meanwhile, brings Shang Zhi Tao to life as a newcomer who may be young and inexperienced, but is also resilient and stubborn when faced with pressure.
Now that The Early Spring (早春晴朗) has premiered, the chemistry between its two leads is also attracting attention. The trailers had already offered glimpses of a relationship that is both romantic and tense, as the two characters try to keep their feelings hidden from those around them.
Their romantic scenes, including kissing and intimate bedroom moments, highlight the natural rapport between Jing Boran and Sun Qian. The secret nature of their relationship adds another layer of tension, particularly as they try to balance their growing feelings with their professional lives.
The two also make a visually well-matched pair. Jing Boran stands around 183 cm tall, while Sun Qian is approximately 172 cm. Their 11 cm height difference has drawn positive reactions from viewers and further adds to their appeal as an on-screen couple.
With their actual age gap standing at eight years rather than 16, the “uncle-and-niece romance” comparison quickly loses its basis. Instead, Jing Boran and Sun Qian are proving that their age difference, visual chemistry, and contrasting character dynamics work naturally on screen in The Early Spring (早春晴朗).
