LayarHijau – The Early Spring (《早春晴朗》), starring Jing Boran and Sun Qian, premiered on August 26, 2026, streaming simultaneously on Youku and Netflix. The urban romance quickly sparked discussion after its premiere, with viewers paying particular attention to the chemistry between its two leads and the drama’s natural portrayal of intimate moments, including kissing and bed scenes.
What makes The Early Spring even more notable is its approach behind the scenes. The drama is being described as the first Chinese drama to officially bring an intimacy coordinator onto its production team.

Taiwanese actress Tsai Jia-yin (蔡嘉茵) was brought in for the role. She previously won Best New Actor at the Taipei Film Awards for Heavy Craving (《大餓》) and has also worked as an intimacy coordinator on the Taiwanese Netflix series Let’s Talk About CHU (《愛愛內含光》).
What Does an Intimacy Coordinator Do?
An intimacy coordinator is a professional who helps production teams plan and manage scenes involving intimate physical contact between actors.
Their job goes beyond choreographing kisses or sexual scenes. They help actors and filmmakers establish boundaries, discuss physical contact in advance, choreograph movements and make sure the scene serves the story while being performed in a controlled and professional environment.
In other words, intimate scenes are treated much like action sequences: the physical movements are planned beforehand so the actors know what will happen once the cameras start rolling.
For The Early Spring, the role also involves helping translate the characters’ emotional development and changing relationship dynamics into physical interactions on screen.
Tsai Jia-yin Helps Shape the Drama’s Intimate Scenes
The Early Spring reportedly adopted industry practices more commonly associated with Hollywood productions by formally incorporating an intimacy coordinator into its crew.
Tsai Jia-yin was brought on to oversee the intimate scenes. Her responsibilities went beyond the technical aspects of physical contact, with her also providing aesthetic input and helping develop the movements and expressions needed to reflect the characters’ evolving relationship.
Her involvement is particularly relevant to the drama’s portrayal of the changing dynamic between its two leads.
Director Explains How the Relationship Shapes the Intimate Scenes
Director Jiang Jizheng described The Early Spring as a mature urban romance in a special feature about the drama.
He explained that the power dynamic between the male and female leads changes as their relationship develops, and the intimate scenes are designed to evolve alongside that shift.
“As the power dynamics in the intimate relationship between the male and female leads change, the portrayal of sensual scenes will also progress,” Jiang said.
He added that bringing in an intimacy coordinator allows those changes to be conveyed with greater subtlety.
“Through the involvement of an intimacy coordinator, the changes in the power dynamic within the intimate scenes can be presented more delicately,” the director said.
As a result, the intimate moments are not simply there to make the romance more exciting. The way the characters approach, touch and respond to each other also becomes part of the storytelling.
Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s Chemistry Gets Viewers Talking
That approach can already be seen in promotional footage for The Early Spring, which features several intimate moments between Jing Boran and Sun Qian.
The kissing and bed scenes avoid some of the more exaggerated conventions often associated with romance dramas. Instead, the tension is built through glances, body language, physical distance and the hesitation that comes before the characters finally make contact.
The result has drawn positive reactions from viewers, who have praised the chemistry between the two actors and the way their intimate scenes are handled.
“Classy without being sleazy,” one netizen commented.
Another wrote, “Finally, they’re not treating viewers like elementary school students.”
The reactions suggest that viewers are responding not simply to the more daring nature of the scenes, but also to how naturally they fit into the characters’ relationship.
By bringing an intimacy coordinator into the production, The Early Spring is taking a more structured approach to intimate scenes while making them part of the characters’ emotional development. The drama starring Jing Boran and Sun Qian is currently available to stream on Youku and Netflix.
