Wagner Moura Hopes the Family Can Start Over
Speaking to CinemaBlend (via Screen Rant), Moura shared his own thoughts about what could lie ahead for the Delgado family after the movie’s final scene.
Rather than viewing their escape simply as another stage in their struggle to survive, the actor hopes the family can find a better way of living in the world that awaits them.
“Well, I hope they discover that of course, the world changed. But I hope that they discover that there are good things about that change,” Moura said.
He then connected the movie’s ending to his own expectations about what would happen after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think that we came out of COVID when, when COVID sort of happened in the end of the whole pandemic, I was like, ‘Okay, the world is gonna change. We are gonna come out of this with a different mindset.’ And I don’t think we did,” he explained.
“So I hope it’s different for the characters of the film,” Moura added.
His comments offer a more optimistic way of looking at the movie’s final moments. For Moura, the Delgado family’s escape does not necessarily mark the end of their story. It could instead be the beginning of a completely different life after years of isolation.
What Happens to the Delgado Family at the End?
The final sequence shows the rain that has plagued the world for years finally coming to an end. The Delgado family leaves their home aboard a salvaged boat and begins traveling across a landscape transformed by the enormous amount of water.

Despite the criticism, The Last House has performed strongly in terms of viewership on Netflix. Following its August 7 release, the movie remained at the top of Netflix’s Top 10 movie rankings in both the United States and worldwide on its second day.
