The story begins when Lu Qinghe’s daughter comes in first in her class. Proud of her achievement, she takes her award certificate to her father’s company to surprise him.
Instead, she walks in on Fu Tingzhou with his female assistant, Lin Ruoyao, and realizes that her father is having an affair.
The situation takes an even uglier turn when Lin Ruoyao slaps the girl in front of Fu Tingzhou. He does nothing to defend his daughter, leaving her to return home in tears with a visible mark on her face.
The incident becomes the breaking point for Lu Qinghe, who has spent years tolerating her husband’s questionable behavior for the sake of keeping the family together.
After learning what happened, Lu Qinghe calls Fu Tingzhou and demands that Lin Ruoyao kneel down and apologize to their daughter.
Fu Tingzhou refuses to take his daughter’s side. Instead, he defends Lin Ruoyao and tells Lu Qinghe to stop making the situation worse, arguing that family problems should not be exposed to outsiders.
The pressure intensifies when Fu Tingzhou’s mother also intervenes. She dismisses the incident as something minor and accuses Lu Qinghe of making a fuss and damaging the family’s reputation.
That finally pushes Lu Qinghe past her limit.
For years, she has been portrayed as a woman who chooses silence and compromise whenever problems arise in her marriage. But after seeing her daughter hurt and humiliated, she decides that she will no longer tolerate anyone treating her family that way.
What Fu Tingzhou does not know is that his wife has been hiding a powerful identity.
Lu Qinghe is the daughter of the founder of Dingheng Pharmaceutical and controls 51 percent of the company’s core shares held in trust. Her position gives her far greater authority within the company than Fu Tingzhou ever realized.
She begins using her influence behind the scenes while gathering evidence of misconduct involving Fu Tingzhou and Lin Ruoyao. As Fu Tingzhou starts to sense that something is wrong, he attempts to rely on his position as company president to maintain control, only to discover that key resources are no longer under his command.
The conflict eventually reaches the company’s boardroom, where Lu Qinghe publicly reveals her true identity.
With control over 51 percent of the company’s core shares, she initiates the process of removing Fu Tingzhou from his position as president of Dingheng Pharmaceutical.
Lin Ruoyao also faces the consequences of her actions. After problems surrounding her conduct are exposed, she is forced out of the company.
By the end of the story, Lu Qinghe gets justice for her daughter. Lin Ruoyao eventually gives a formal apology for slapping the girl.
Lu Qinghe also ends her marriage to Fu Tingzhou and takes back control of the assets and authority that had been tied to the Fu family. She ultimately becomes the person in control of Dingheng Pharmaceutical and begins a new life with her daughter.
Break the Sealed Trust follows the familiar revenge-and-family-conflict formula often seen in Chinese short dramas, but places the mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the story. What begins with a single slap quickly escalates into a confrontation over infidelity, corporate power and a hidden family identity.
