LayarHijau – Korean action-comedy series Flex X Cop 2 officially premieres today, Friday, on SBS, bringing back Ahn Bo-hyun as the wealthy detective Jin Yi-soo. Building on the success of its first season, the new installment promises larger-scale action, more extravagant visuals, and fresh team dynamics.

The original season became a hit after recording a peak nationwide viewership ratboing of 11 percent. Season 2 continues the story of Jin Yi-soo, a third-generation chaebol heir who solves difficult criminal cases by combining his detective skills with unlimited financial resources, luxury vehicles, influential connections, and even private aircraft.

Speaking during a press conference at SBS headquarters in Seoul on Tuesday, Ahn Bo-hyun said viewers will see a more mature side of his character following Yi-soo’s graduation from the police academy.

“Yi-soo hasn’t lost the personality that defines him, but his experience at the police academy has helped him grow. Audiences will see a more refined and upgraded version of him this season,” Ahn said.

The actor also hinted that the production has significantly expanded its action sequences.

“From high-speed car chases to scenes involving private jets, there are many moments that viewers rarely get to see in television dramas. It feels like watching a blockbuster film, and I think the audience will really enjoy the experience,” he added.

Joining the cast this season is Jung Eun-chae, who plays Ju Hye-ra, the newly appointed leader of the Violent Crimes Unit. Her character is a legendary former counterterrorism officer and a notoriously strict police academy instructor who once made Yi-soo’s training particularly challenging.

Jung revealed that she accepted the role because she genuinely enjoyed the first season.

“I loved Season 1 and was excited to see how its energetic story would continue. I had also heard wonderful things about the chemistry among the cast, so I wanted to become part of that team,” she said.

She explained that although Hye-ra and Yi-soo initially clash because of their different personalities, they gradually develop into an effective crime-fighting partnership.

Director Kim Jae-hong said the production team aimed to make every aspect of the sequel bigger and more cinematic while staying true to the series’ unique concept.

“Our goal was simple—to create a second season that surpasses the first. We prepared a more polished story with a larger scale and much more impressive visual spectacle,” Kim said.

According to the director, each case was specifically designed to showcase Yi-soo’s unconventional methods and resources.

“We wanted cases that only Yi-soo could encounter and only Yi-soo could solve. We carefully crafted every investigation so both the journey and the resolution feel sophisticated and premium,” he explained.

Cast member Kang Sang-jun said the new season still delivers the classic appeal of a detective drama, inviting viewers to solve each mystery alongside the investigative team.

“At the same time, audiences will keep wondering how much money Yi-soo is going to spend this time and what extraordinary method he’ll use to crack the case. Watching those expectations unfold is part of the fun,” Kang said.

Jung Eun-chae also described the viewing experience as being like “riding a roller coaster,” promising plenty of excitement and thrilling moments throughout the season.
