LayarHijau – Chinese actress Zhao Lusi recently shared an update on her next drama project during a livestream. She revealed that she was expected to begin filming a new drama in August, but she has yet to receive the revised script, making it impossible for her to confirm whether she will be able to start filming as scheduled.
Zhao did not reveal the title of the project. However, several Chinese media outlets and entertainment bloggers have linked her to the rumored urban drama As Beautiful As You Want (《要多美丽就多美丽》), an adaptation of a novel by Yi Shu. The drama is reportedly being produced by Xixi Pictures, with Yang Xiaopei attached as producer. So far, however, neither the production company nor the cast has been officially announced.

Zhao Lusi Still Hasn’t Received the Revised Script
During the livestream, Zhao admitted that she has no idea why the script revisions are taking so long.
“I don’t know what they’re revising. They just haven’t given me the script.”
Because she has not received the complete revised script, Zhao said she cannot confirm whether she will be able to start filming in August as originally planned.
She stressed that she is willing to join the production once the script is ready, but only after she has received and read the complete version.
Rumored New Drama Remains Unconfirmed
Since Zhao has not disclosed any details about her upcoming drama, speculation surrounding the project continues to circulate online.
If the project is indeed As Beautiful As You Want, the rumored cast has changed several times. Xu Kai and Miles Wei (Wei Zheming) have both been linked to the male lead role in separate rumors.
Michelle Chen has also been connected to the project, although the reports contradict one another. One rumor claims Zhao replaced an earlier casting plan involving Michelle Chen, while another suggests the two actresses will star together as dual female leads.
None of the rumored casting has been officially confirmed. Zhao’s latest revelation that she has not even received the revised script also indicates the project may still be in development.
Zhao Lusi Has Become More Selective About Roles
The actress also revealed that her approach to choosing drama projects has changed.
She said she is no longer interested in stories that revolve solely around romance. As she approaches her 30s, Zhao hopes to take on characters and tell stories that allow her to express what she truly wants to say to audiences.
“Even if I star in ten dramas with the same kind of story, if they don’t turn out well, there’s no point.”
She added that finding a trustworthy production team and a truly strong script also comes down to timing and luck.
Focused on Her Concert Tour
For now, Zhao is focusing on her concert tour. She said she will consider returning to a drama set after completing her concert schedule.
She also made it clear that she currently has no plans to appear on variety shows.
Her comments have left some fans concerned that staying away from drama productions for too long could reduce her visibility. Many are hoping she will soon find the right project and return to filming.
Commercial Appeal Remains Strong
Although Zhao has yet to officially announce her next drama, she remains one of China’s most commercially valuable actresses. She built her strong commercial appeal through hit dramas such as Love Like the Galaxy and Hidden Love, while her upcoming drama Love’s Ambition has already attracted significant attention ahead of its release. Zhao also continues to serve as a brand ambassador for numerous major brands, reflecting her enduring popularity and influence in the entertainment industry.
