The movie tells the story of the deep friendship between Gao Fan, played by Zhang Ruonan, and Wang Meili, portrayed by Jin Jing.
Looking back on what drew her to the project, Zhang said the screenplay immediately resonated with her on an emotional level.
“I was deeply touched by the script. I couldn’t stop crying while reading it,” she said.
She recalled that one particular line from the original screenplay left the biggest impression on her.
“What touched me the most was a line where Gao Fan says to Meili, ‘We really did it. We became lifelong best friends.’ That line hit me so hard.”
According to Zhang, the dialogue reminded her of her own closest friendships.
“It instantly made me think of my best friend. I’ve always been someone who treasures friendship, so I really wanted to be part of a story like this.”
Jin Jing said she was equally captivated by the screenplay and even stopped reading halfway because she had already fallen in love with the story.
“Producer Chen Jie added me on WeChat and sent me the script. I was reading it in the car, and halfway through I exited the document and turned off my phone,” she recalled.
She explained that her reaction stemmed from years of believing she would never be offered a truly significant role.
“Based on my past experience, I never thought an important role like this would come my way. I was scared because I loved the story so much.”
Jin said the bond between Gao Fan and Wang Meili reflected one of the most meaningful emotions in her own life.
“I couldn’t even bring myself to finish reading it. I thought, ‘I don’t want to fall even more in love with this story.'”
Moments later, she reopened her chat with producer Chen Jie and received the news that changed everything.
“He told me they wanted me to play Wang Meili.”
The actress said she was overwhelmed with excitement.
“I felt like rolling down the car window and shouting at the top of my lungs. I was so excited and so happy.”
Jin added that she never imagined her first major role would come from a story she cherished so deeply.
“I never expected my first truly important role to be in a story that I love this much,” she said.
