Stephen Chow said he was particularly impressed by Dilraba’s ability to bring something unexpected to every scene.
“Every time she performs, she brings surprises. Many times, I would ask if we could try one more take. It was not because the previous performance was not good — it was already very good — but because I felt she could bring out something even more special,” Stephen Chow said.
He also praised Dilraba’s ability to adapt quickly during filming. According to Stephen Chow, Dilraba had limited time to train because of the fast production schedule.
“She actually had very little time to train because our filming schedule was quite fast. Despite the limited preparation time, once she started performing, she immediately delivered a great performance and handled it very well,” he said.
For Stephen Chow, Dilraba’s ability to quickly understand the character and deliver strong performances despite limited preparation was one of the reasons he trusted her with the role of Yu Long.
In Kung Fu Soccer, Dilraba plays Yu Long, a forward player from the Emei women’s soccer team. The film follows the team’s journey as they are initially underestimated in the Supreme Invincible Cup tournament, before making a comeback with the help of captain Shuangshuang, Yu Long, and martial arts master Xu Feng.
Written and directed by Stephen Chow, Kung Fu Soccer stars Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba Dilmurat, and Zhang Yixing in the lead roles, with Liu Jialing and Takeru Satoh making special appearances.
