LayarHijau – Chinese costume drama Blossoms of Power (百花杀) got off to a promising start when it premiered on July 9. Starring He Yu and Meng Ziyi, the series delivered a stronger first-day performance than Blossom (九重紫), another Meng Ziyi drama that went on to become one of the biggest hits of its season.
Adapted from Jin Huang’s novel Wo Hua Kai Hou Bai Hua Sha, Blossoms of Power blends revenge, political intrigue, and romance. The story follows Gu Qingzhi, who is killed after her entire family is massacred. Given a second chance at life, she is reborn as Shen Xihe, Princess Zhaoning. Determined to uncover the truth behind her family’s destruction, she sets out on a carefully planned quest for revenge while navigating the ruthless power struggles of the imperial court.

Along the way, Shen Xihe crosses paths with Crown Prince Xiao Huayong, who conceals his intelligence and ambitions behind the façade of a frail and chronically ill prince. What begins as a relationship built on mutual manipulation gradually develops into trust as they survive one dangerous conspiracy after another, eventually joining forces to restore stability to the kingdom.
According to Yunhe Data, Blossoms of Power posted a 7.1 percent effective viewership market share on its first day of release, ranking seventh among newly premiered dramas during the same period. The series also reached a platform popularity index of 24,683 on its opening day.
The strong debut is particularly noteworthy because this is not Meng Ziyi’s first revenge-themed leading role. She previously starred in Blossom, another Yaoke Media production with a similar premise. The two dramas also share part of the same creative team, leading many viewers to point out similarities in their overall style and storytelling after watching Blossoms of Power’s premiere.
For comparison, Blossom recorded a 4.6 percent effective viewership market share and a first-day platform popularity index of 24,231 when it premiered. Although it started with lower numbers, the drama steadily gained momentum through positive word of mouth, eventually surpassing the 30,000 popularity mark and earning recognition as one of the platform’s breakout hits.
With a stronger opening than Blossom, Blossoms of Power has laid a solid foundation for a successful run. Whether it can maintain that momentum and grow into Meng Ziyi’s next hit drama, however, will depend on how audiences respond in the weeks ahead.
