LayarHijau– After disappearing from the public eye for four years following a massive tax evasion scandal, Chinese actor Deng Lun is making waves once again. The actor recently made a surprise return to the spotlight by gracing the latest digital edition of Spain’s avant-garde fashion and art publication, METAL Magazine.
In a major move, Deng didn’t just appear on one cover—he claimed three solo covers for a single issue. This unprecedented feat marks the first time in the publication’s 20-year history that a single artist has monopolized three covers. He is also the first Asian face to front the magazine this year, sparking immediate buzz about a potential full-fledged comeback.

Deng’s absence from the entertainment industry has been stark. Since his tax evasion scandal broke in March 2022, he was effectively blacklisted in mainland China. His acting projects were scrapped, his previous works were pulled from streaming platforms, and his social media accounts were wiped, leaving fans with almost zero updates on his whereabouts. This high-profile international feature is being viewed as his most significant public appearance in nearly half a decade.
Alongside the photoshoot, Deng sat down for an exclusive interview, opening up about his state of mind during his long hiatus. He revealed that he never gave up on his dreams, even when hitting rock bottom. Now, he says he has learned to face life with a calmer mindset, viewing life’s “impermanence” as a new form of “hope” and gaining a clearer understanding of his true passions and direction.
The magazine’s release was met with overwhelming enthusiasm. Limited edition collectibles, including exclusive Polaroids and trading cards, sold out almost instantly. Fans flooded the internet with messages of support, with some even re-downloading social media apps just to follow his updates. Comments like “Thank you for not giving up,” “You look great,” and “We’ve been waiting for you to come back” have been trending among his follower base.
However, this high-profile return has also sparked a polarized debate. While supporters see the prestigious international treatment as proof that his market appeal remains intact, skeptics are more cautious. Critics point out that mainland China’s strict regulations against “morally tainted” artists remain firmly in place. To them, this overseas magazine feature feels more like a way to test the waters rather than a green light for a genuine return to the Chinese film and television industry.
What do you guys think? Does this international feature signal a real comeback for Deng Lun, or is he still a long way from returning to the screen?
