Adapted from the popular novel of the same name by Xiu Tu Cheng from Jinjiang Literature City, Love For You is directed by Liu Junjie, the mastermind behind the hit drama Lighter & Princess. Set in the 1990s in the small southern city of “Tengcheng,” the story centers on Chen Yi and Miao Jing. They become step-siblings due to their parents’ remarriage, but share no blood relation. Starting as mutual enemies, they gradually save each other, only to be torn apart by fate for years before destiny brings them together again.
Song Weilong delivers a stunning performance, shattering his previous image as a warm-hearted guy or a wealthy CEO. He plays Chen Yi, a rough and wild youth from the lower class. Transforming from a rebellious teenager to an adult who runs a local pool hall, Chen Yi carries the weight of family tragedies and past scars. To protect the woman he loves, he chooses to bear everything alone, making this one of Song Weilong’s most groundbreaking roles in recent years.
On the other hand, Zhang Jingyi plays Miao Jing, a girl raised in a single-parent family. With a cold exterior but a resilient heart, she transforms from a teenage girl into a mature, independent woman. Initially clashing with each other, an unexpected incident slowly opens their hearts. When their respective families face tragedies, they can only rely on each other in an imperfect world, until the tender seeds of love begin to sprout.
However, just as Miao Jing gathers the courage to confess her feelings, Chen Yi gets entangled in an arson case and becomes a key witness. To protect Miao Jing, he ruthlessly forces her to leave Tengcheng. The two are separated for years. It isn’t until adult Miao Jing returns to her hometown that fate reunites them, rekindling their unextinguished feelings as they face their past traumas and the truth behind the case together.
The newly released trailer opens with adult Miao Jing’s return to Tengcheng, interspersed with flashbacks of their teenage years, outlining an inseparable bond that survives the test of time. Meanwhile, the poster features Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi leaning closely into each other’s embrace. The band-aids on their faces retain the marks of their youthful rebellion, while their gazes reveal a gentleness and firmness forged by the passing years.
Since the trailer and poster were unveiled, the comment sections have been flooded with netizen enthusiasm. Many commented, “Song Weilong is finally not playing a CEO anymore,” and “Zhang Jingyi’s aura is a perfect fit for Miao Jing.” The chemistry between the two leads also received high praise, with comments like “Their CP chemistry is incredibly strong.” Fans of the original novel also chimed in, expressing their hope that the drama adaptation will faithfully present the complete, time-spanning romance and redemption arc of the two characters.
