Clarification Regarding the Tea-Drinking Scene
The issue began with the circulation of screenshots allegedly from The First Jasmine filming location. A person with a similar posture to Bai Lu was seen performing a tea-drinking scene, sparking speculation that a stand-in was used even for non-action scenes.
However, the speculation quickly received a response. After cross-checking with the actual drama, netizens found that the tea-drinking scene aired in Episode 22 showed Bai Lu in full and facing the camera. The video circulating on social media was allegedly a recording from the lighting adjustment and camera blocking process before the scene began, not the final drama footage.
In response, Bai Lu’s official fan information account released behind-the-scenes footage to clarify the information. The video showed the actual filming process, allowing the issue of using a stand-in for the tea-drinking scene to be properly clarified.
Focus on Action Scenes and Blurred Effects
After the clarification of the tea-drinking scene, public attention shifted to the action scenes in The First Jasmine. Netizens noticed that in several action scenes, the face of the performer was given a blurred effect (mosaic).
Some viewers noted that the posture of the performer in those scenes looked different from Bai Lu, raising suspicions that the scenes involved a stand-in. This sparked discussion, considering the drama was previously promoted by highlighting Bai Lu’s agile action skills.
It should be noted that using stand-ins for high-risk scenes is common in the film industry for the safety of actors. However, blurring faces in the final broadcast has raised questions from some viewers regarding the transparency of stand-in usage.
Broadcast Adjustments and Stance of Related Parties
Amid the ongoing discussion, there are indications of changes to several promotional videos and scene clips that previously circulated on social media. The production team reportedly deleted related viral videos and made adjustments to several scenes in already-aired episodes overnight.
On the other hand, Bai Lu’s fanbase expressed the view that the circulating video clips were often taken out of context and were an attempt to divert the issue. The discussion also expanded with rumors from netizens that the male lead in the drama allegedly used up to five stand-ins.
As of this article being published, neither Bai Lu, her studio, nor the production team of The First Jasmine have issued any further official statements regarding the discussion of using stand-ins for action scenes.
