Audiences also noted that her screen presence and natural expressions feel more refined and mature compared to her earlier projects. Public favorability toward the actress is said to be steadily increasing as the drama continues to air.
The Lead is a drama centered around the world of traditional Chinese opera. The story follows Yi Qin’e, a village girl who joins a Qin Opera troupe after being brought there by her uncle. Her life changes dramatically as she goes through hardships before eventually becoming a renowned opera performer while dealing with loneliness, pressure, and the changing times around her.
The drama airs on CCTV-1 and Tencent Video in China. Internationally, it is also available on WeTV in selected regions with English subtitles. The series consists of 48 episodes.
Amid the intense competition among China’s post-95 and post-00 actresses, Liu Haocun is considered one of the young stars currently showing one of the strongest upward trends. Her latest project has brought her name back into online discussions across Chinese social media and entertainment forums.
The report also highlighted how increasingly competitive the Chinese film and drama industry has become. With productions becoming more selective and cautious about investments, young actors are now expected to rely not only on popularity, but also on strong projects and good public reputation to build lasting careers.
