LayarHijau – Miles Wei and Zheng Hehuizi star in the new romance drama You Are My Fateful Love (你是迟来的欢喜), which premiered today with its first four episodes. The drama quickly climbed the Maoyan popularity chart, outperforming several shows airing in the same time slot and currently sitting in the upper ranks, trailing only behind Pursuit of Jade (逐玉).

Previously, Miles Wei gained attention through Find Yourself Again (私藏浪漫), as well as his breakout performance as the antagonist Liu Chang in Flourished Peony (国色芳华) and its sequel In the Name of Blossom (锦绣芳华).

Here are three major highlights from the premiere of You Are My Fateful Love:

The light and engaging storyline

In the first four episodes, Xu Huisong and Ruan Yu are shown to have had mutual feelings back in high school, marked by innocent and youthful emotions. However, they end up missing their chance after Xu Huisong holds Ruan Yu’s hand under fireworks, only to later claim it was a mistake.

Years later, Xu Huisong has become an elite lawyer, while Ruan Yu is now a novelist. When they reunite, Xu Huisong appears calm on the surface, but is actually easily flustered—even when simply brushing Ruan Yu’s hair aside. He also shows subtle jealousy through small actions, such as deliberately taking the front passenger seat so she won’t sit next to his best friend, and asking his friend to find out whether she currently has a boyfriend. These details bring plenty of lighthearted and entertaining moments.

Miles Wei’s contrasting character

The character Xu Huisong, played by Miles Wei, presents himself as a cold and highly professional lawyer in public, with a sharp suit and gold-rimmed glasses that earned praise from viewers as the “ultimate intellectual ideal type.”

However, behind that polished image, he secretly loves fried chicken and cola, even going as far as pouring cola into a coffee can to maintain his image. He is also calculating in the way he approaches Ruan Yu, revealing a cunning side beneath his composed exterior. This contrast between his outward persona and true personality has become one of the drama’s biggest appeals.

Strong chemistry between the leads

Miles Wei and Zheng Hehuizi are both known for their strong on-screen chemistry with co-stars, and this drama proves it once again. They convincingly portray a youthful relationship filled with shy glances, avoided eye contact, and unspoken feelings.

In one of the preview scenes that caught viewers’ attention, Xu Huisong helps Ruan Yu with a kissing scene for her novel. He suddenly pushes her down, removes his glasses, and slowly leans in—an intense moment that has sparked excitement among viewers and heightened anticipation for their relationship development in upcoming episodes.
