LayarHijau – The new Korean drama Siren’s Kiss, starring Park Min-young, Wi Ha-joon, and Kim Jung-hyun, has received a warm response since its premiere. Although the series features several differences from the Japanese original that inspired the story, its suspenseful atmosphere and tense plot have kept viewers on edge and eager to see what happens next.

Behind the intense storyline, there are also many interesting stories from the production process. From Park Min Young’s dramatic physical transformation to the amusing story behind her kiss scene with Wi Ha-joon, here are seven behind-the-scenes facts about Siren’s Kiss.

Park Min Young Dropped Her Weight to 42 Kilograms

To fully portray the character Han Seol-ah, Park Min Young underwent a significant physical transformation. The actress reduced her weight to around 42 kilograms before filming began.

This dedication reminds many viewers of her preparation for Marry My Husband, where she reportedly dropped to about 37 kilograms to portray a character suffering from a serious illness. In Siren’s Kiss, Park Min Young appears noticeably thinner, with more defined cheekbones and a slimmer figure.

She explained that the transformation was necessary because Han Seol-ah is portrayed as someone who has experienced deep trauma and barely eats.

According to Park Min Young, the character rarely eats and often spends time at home with only water or alcohol. Because of the character’s emotional state, she believed it would not make sense for her to look healthy or well-fed.

Drinking Three Liters of Water a Day During Filming

To emphasize the fragile condition of her character, Park Min Young followed an intense diet routine throughout filming.

She revealed that during production she would drink as much as three liters of water a day. Along with limiting her food intake, this method helped her reduce weight quickly.

However, she joked that once filming was over, she immediately stopped the routine.

Watching Crime Documentaries to Study Human Behavior

Beyond physical preparation, Park Min Young also spent considerable time researching her role.

One of the ways she prepared was by watching numerous crime documentaries. Through these shows, she studied how people speak, how their eyes move, and how they react when confronted with the truth.

She even said that watching crime documentaries became a daily habit during her preparation for the drama.

Wi Ha-joon Was Called a Beginner in Kiss Scenes

Park Min Young is widely known for starring in popular romantic dramas with memorable kiss scenes. Because of that, she jokingly teased her co-star Wi Ha-joon.

The actor has rarely taken on romantic roles throughout his career, and he has only filmed a handful of kiss scenes.

Park Min Young joked that compared to her own experience in romance dramas, Wi Ha-joon could almost be considered a “beginner” when it comes to filming kiss scenes.

The Kiss Scene Turned Out to Be Surprisingly Intense

However, once filming began, Park Min Young realized things were quite different from what she had expected.

She revealed that during the kiss scene, Wi Ha-joon’s performance was far more intense than she had imagined. At one point, she even felt as if he was going to “swallow” her.

Park Min Young admitted that the panicked expression viewers saw on screen was not entirely acting. Part of it was her genuine reaction to how intense the moment felt.

She also joked that Wi Ha-joon has relatively full lips and a larger mouth, which made the kiss feel even more overwhelming. The humorous comment left Wi Ha-joon visibly embarrassed and quickly became a hot topic among fans online.

Kim Jung-hyun’s Acting Earned Praise From the Crew

Another highlight behind the scenes was the acting performance of Kim Jung-hyun.

Many crew members on set reportedly praised his performance, and the drama’s director even said that Kim Jung-hyun’s acting in the latter part of the story would become one of the most talked-about elements of the series.

Park Min Young also praised her co-star, saying that Kim Jung-hyun has the ability to change the atmosphere on set and often steals the spotlight in scenes.

When asked about the compliments, Kim Jung-hyun responded humbly. He expressed gratitude for the praise but said he still looked forward to hearing the audience’s evaluation.

A Fun and Warm Atmosphere on Set

Although the drama itself is dark and suspenseful, the atmosphere during filming was reportedly warm and enjoyable.

Kim Jung-hyun explained that because Park Min Young’s character Han Seol-ah is emotionally restrained and gloomy, the actress often tried to maintain a serious mood around her to stay in character.

Meanwhile, he attempted to lighten the mood by talking and joking with the cast and crew.

Wi Ha-joon also shared that filming Siren’s Kiss felt different from his previous projects. After finishing large productions such as Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3, he took nearly a year off before joining the drama.

By the time filming was nearing completion, he even found himself hoping to work with the same team again because he felt so welcomed on set.

Kim Jung-hyun Is a Serious Fitness Enthusiast

Another interesting fact is Kim Jung-hyun’s strict fitness routine.

The actor is known for maintaining a disciplined workout schedule, and he continued that habit even during filming. He would often go to the gym as early as six in the morning before heading to the set.

During a TV program promoting the drama, Park Min Young once asked him what the first thing he would do would be if he suddenly became very rich.

Without hesitation, Kim Jung-hyun answered that he would build a large gym with complete training facilities, including strength training and martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Wi Ha-joon enthusiastically responded that he shared the same dream.
