LayarHijau– The name of Chinese actor Yu Menglong has once again drawn public attention after netizens observed what they believe to be repeated references appearing in posts published by official Chinese government Weibo accounts. Yu Menglong, who died on September 11 in Beijing after falling from a height at the age of 37, was officially classified by police as having died in an “alcohol-related accidental fall.” However, lingering doubts surrounding the cause of his death continue to circulate, fueling controversy and calls for justice from fans.
Recently, netizens claimed to have discovered that the phrase Yu Menglong (于朦胧) appears frequently in posts from several government-affiliated Weibo accounts, triggering heated discussion online.

Several official government posts use the phrase “于朦胧,” a poetic expression that literally refers to mist or a hazy atmosphere and also happens to be the meaning behind actor Yu Menglong’s name.
On November 21, the Communist Party–affiliated media account People’s Daily Science published a scenic message that included the line, “早安，愿你于朦胧中看清方向,” meaning, “Good morning, may you see your direction clearly amid the haze.”
On November 25, the official Weibo account of Xixi National Wetland Park in Hangzhou wrote, “木桥隐于朦胧,” which translates to, “A wooden bridge hidden in the mist.”
Earlier, on October 30, the China Meteorological Administration used the phrase “于朦胧间触摸历史与当下的交融” when describing foggy weather conditions, meaning, “Touching the blend of history and the present amid the haze.” Even earlier, on September 30, the Zhenjiang Ecology Bureau posted, “烟雨楼台隐匿于朦胧的雾气中,” or “Pavilions in misty rain hidden within hazy fog.”
Although these posts were published by different agencies, at different times, and on unrelated topics, they all embedded the phrase “于朦胧,” either deliberately or coincidentally. This pattern has led to polarized reactions among netizens. Some argue that it is merely a coincidence, noting that official government accounts often adopt poetic and literary language that happens to overlap with the actor’s name.
Others, however, believe the repeated use of the phrase is not entirely innocent. Some netizens speculate that official media outlets may be cautiously testing boundaries, or that individuals within the system are intentionally inserting subtle messages through official channels. These interpretations have fueled broader speculation about internal power dynamics, with some suggesting that the Yu Menglong incident has become a symbolic trigger amid internal tensions.
Previously, Chinese authorities were known to impose strict controls on discussions involving sensitive issues related to high-ranking officials and the entertainment industry. Posts or accounts mentioning Yu Menglong were frequently deleted or blocked, including those that used homophones of his name. This approach sparked anger among netizens, who accused the system of lacking transparency.
As of now, more than 720,000 netizens have signed the “Justice for Yu Menglong” petition, calling for a comprehensive, independent, and transparent investigation into his death. Some netizens have also revisited reports of Yu Menglong’s alleged participation in a “17-person gathering” prior to his death, raising suspicions of detention or violence. However, none of these claims have been substantiated.
The truth behind the case remains unclear, and public attention continues to focus on any further developments and official responses.
