LayarHijau – Chinese drama Love’s Ambition, starring Zhao Lusi and William Chan, has racked up over 20 billion views and continues to dominate Netflix Taiwan, even surpassing Luo Yunxi’s Whispers of Fate. To celebrate the show’s massive success, a special event was held in Chengdu on November 10, where Zhao Lusi and William Chan appeared together, delivering playful and entertaining interactions that delighted fans.
During the event, Zhao Lusi went live for 15 minutes while dining, and one of the highlights came when the two stars recreated an iconic scene from Love’s Ambition. William Chan shouted at the camera: “Yan Yan (Zhao Lusi’s character nickname), pick up the phone, Yan Yan!” His slightly garbled delivery had viewers in stitches, and Zhao Lusi couldn’t stop laughing, telling him, “Alright, alright!” while he enthusiastically reenacted the moment.

The live stream took a fun turn when the two stars ended up promoting products online. William Chan playfully called Zhao Lusi a “sales expert,” while she matched his energy, helping promote items in a humorous way. Fans felt like they were watching a “bonus episode” of Love’s Ambition, and many expressed hope to see the pair reunited in future projects.
At the event, Zhao Lusi looked charming in a white T-shirt and pink strappy dress, accessorized with a cute bunny headband, while William Chan wore a dark blue T-shirt, a brown suede jacket, jeans, and a large yellow fish headband. Besides the iconic live scene, Zhao Lusi also helped William Chan apply allergy medicine to the area under his eyes after noticing some irritation, showing their camaraderie off-screen.
The “Yan Yan, pick up the phone!” scene originally comes from a moment in the drama where William Chan’s character, drunk and missing Zhao Lusi’s character, shouts her nickname frantically. Behind the scenes, fans joked about his pronunciation sounding like “Ye Ye, pick up the phone,” which only increased the scene’s popularity and cemented it as one of the show’s most memorable moments.
Joining them in the live stream was Wen Cengrong, who plays Zhao Lusi’s on-screen mother-in-law, further highlighting the friendly relationship among the cast. While fans enjoyed the fun interactions, some viewers criticized the platform Tencent for not only broadcasting the celebration live but also selling Love’s Ambition merchandise during the event, which they felt over-commercialized the show’s final moments.
