For the past few weeks, speculation has been growing that Dylan Wang has already been cast as the male lead. Earlier, actress Meng Ziyi was rumored to be the top candidate for the female lead opposite Dylan Wang, and the topic even climbed to the top spot on Weibo’s hot search list.
Zhang Ruonan’s team has since issued an official statement denying the rumors of any contact with the production crew of The Poisonous Empress of a General’s Family. The statement read: “The rumors circulating online about being in talks with the project are untrue. For further updates, please refer only to official announcements.”
The Poisonous Empress of a General’s Family is an adaptation of the popular historical web novel Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage by Qian Shan Cha Ke. The project has been the subject of casting rumors for years, with several famous names such as Tan Jianci, Dylan Wang, and Zhao Lusi being linked to it over time.
On October 24, another rumor surfaced on Weibo claiming that Dilraba Dilmurat had declined an offer to star in the drama. One Weibo user wrote, “I heard Dilraba Dilmurat turned down The Poisonous Empress of a General’s Family. No matter the outcome, she’s always smart about her script choices! From classical to modern roles, from soft-spoken to independent characters, she knows what suits her best. Maybe she declined because she has another project lined up. Let’s wait for her next surprise!”
The story revolves around Shen Miao, the daughter of a strict and disciplined military family. Betrayed by her husband—whom she helped claim the throne—and witnessing the downfall of her entire family, Shen Miao is given a second chance to relive her youth. Determined to protect her loved ones and seek revenge, she crosses paths with Xie Jingxing, a brilliant but mysterious young general with a dangerous aura. Their relationship unfolds amid palace intrigue and relentless warfare.
Qian Shan Cha Ke is known as one of China’s most prominent webnovel authors in the historical romance genre. Several of her novels have already been adapted into major drama series, including:
- The Double (2024), based on Marriage of the Di Daughter
- Legend of the Female General (2025), based on Rebirth of a Star General
- The Glory (2025), based on The Reborn Noble Girl Is Hard to Find
Although Dylan Wang’s involvement remains unconfirmed, discussions around the drama continue to rise on Weibo. Many fans hope that if the project is officially greenlit, the production team will cast actors with strong acting skills to bring the complex characters of Shen Miao and Xie Jingxing to life.
