LayarHijau – After the drama The First Frost (难哄), which he starred in with Zhang Ruonan, became one of this year’s most popular series, actor Bai Jingting once again drew public attention with his appearance in the third season of the variety show Natural High (现在就出发). In the program, Bai joined Shen Teng, Jin Chen, and Wang Anyu on a relaxed adventure-themed trip. Yet the most talked-about part of the episode was not the travel segment, but the moment when the production team played a clip from The First Frost—the memorable proposal scene.

As soon as the clip appeared on screen, Bai Jingting looked visibly embarrassed. He immediately hid behind Wang Anyu, while the others burst out laughing at his reaction. Wang teased, “Brother Bai’s head is about to bury itself in the ground,” then mimicked the iconic line from the scene, “I’ll make you, like me now, get what you wish for.” Bai covered his face, blushing so hard that the whole studio and online viewers couldn’t stop laughing.

In The First Frost, Bai Jingting plays Sang Yan, while Zhang Ruonan portrays Wen Yifan. The proposal scene, which has gone viral again, was specially designed by director Qu You Ning. Only Bai knew the details of the scene in advance, while Zhang was kept unaware so that her reaction would be completely genuine. After accepting the proposal, Wen Yifan says, “In our next life, I’ll fall in love with you six years earlier—to make up for this life’s regrets.” Sang Yan replies, “In the next life, I’ll make you, just like I am now, get what you wish for.”

Aside from the nostalgic clip, the episode was also filled with playful moments among the cast. In one segment, Fan Chengcheng sat on Bai’s lap to reenact a famous scene from The First Frost, but instead of repeating the original dialogue, he jokingly asked, “Why didn’t you come out when I called you to hang out at three in the morning?” Bai replied dryly, “Because it was three in the morning,” then countered, “Why don’t you ever ask me to play basketball?” Shen Teng added teasingly, “He needs to save his energy for going out at 3 a.m.,” sending everyone into laughter.

Fan Chengcheng then asked if he could play Zhang Ruonan’s role if The First Frost 2 were ever made. Bai Jingting burst out laughing and replied, “Whoever wants to, can—as long as I’m not the one who has to coax.”

The original title of the drama and novel The First Frost actually translates to Hard to Coax or Difficult to Persuade. Interestingly, Youku used this title for the drama’s Indonesian release, Sulit Dibujuk.

Not only did Bai entertain with his reactions, but he also showed off his cooking skills in the same episode. He made stir-fried tofu with thick sauce but accidentally used too much seasoning. To fix it, he quietly poured out some of the excess sauce—only to be caught by Wang Anyu. Still, the final dish turned out delicious, earning praise from his co-stars. In the previous season, Bai’s tomato-and-egg stir-fry had gone wrong, so this time he redeemed himself with a dish that won everyone’s approval.

Bai Jingting’s appearance on Natural High quickly became a trending topic on Chinese social media. Many fans praised his genuine and endearing personality, while the The First Frost proposal scene went viral again on Weibo. His on-screen chemistry with Zhang Ruonan remains a favorite topic among viewers, especially after past rumors suggested the two developed real feelings during filming.
