LayarHijau – Chinese actor Xu Kai, who rose to fame through the palace drama Story of Yanxi Palace (延禧攻略), recently found himself in hot water after being accused of cheating by his ex-girlfriend, Xu Lisha. The scandal quickly spiraled, putting Xu Kai’s reputation at risk. But in a surprising turn of events, Xu Lisha has now admitted that her accusations were part of a prank she staged with friends.

During a livestream, Xu Lisha confessed that she only wanted to “tease Xu Kai.” She further revealed that the photos of Xu Kai at a hotel, which fueled the rumors, were not taken by her but sent to her by someone else. This admission cast serious doubt on the credibility of her earlier claims and immediately pushed her name back onto the trending list.

According to Xu Lisha, she and Xu Kai were once part of the same WeChat group with friends. In mid-August, Xu Kai wanted to leave the group, but Xu Lisha threatened, “If you leave, I’ll see you on Weibo.” Xu Kai left anyway, prompting Xu Lisha and her friends to hatch a prank. Using a small account with barely 200 followers, they posted fake screenshots and photos that suggested Xu Kai was flaunting his relationship, hoping to anger his fans and force Xu Kai’s manager, Yu Zheng, to contact them.

The plan, however, backfired. Instead of reaching out privately, Yu Zheng issued a public statement accusing Xu Lisha of harassment and warning that the matter could be reported to the police. The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Xu Lisha insisted she never meant to ruin Xu Kai and never expected things to blow up the way they did.

Still, she maintained that “everything I said was true, not a single lie,” including the hand-holding photos and intimate shots of Xu Kai. But she clarified that these images were not taken by her—rather, they came from another woman whose identity she refused to reveal.

The shocking reversal has sparked heated debate online. Some netizens accused Xu Lisha of trying to extort money or chase fame, while others sympathized with Xu Kai, whose career took a heavy blow. His latest drama, Midnight Return (子夜归), which had enjoyed strong ratings and attracted advertisers, was suddenly dragged down by the scandal. Many sponsors withdrew, and even his co-star Tian Xiwei was affected, with their on-screen couple branding failing to take off. In the end, the drama was rushed to conclusion by the platform and quietly taken off air.
