The controversy erupted after a lengthy social media post by a user under the name “Paris梨lii,” who accused the actor of infidelity and emotional abuse during their relationship, which allegedly began in late 2023.
In her post, Paris梨lii shared several screenshots of private conversations and photos together as evidence of their romantic involvement. She claimed that during their time together, Zi Yu remained in close contact with his ex and displayed ambiguous behavior toward other women—actions she viewed as emotional cheating. She also alleged that Zi Yu’s management pressured her to keep the relationship secret, even threatening legal action if she chose to go public.
According to World Journal, the accusations quickly went viral on Chinese social media platforms, particularly Weibo. Related hashtags began trending, and online sentiment swiftly turned against Zi Yu, with netizens demanding a clearer explanation and condemning his behavior.
In response to the growing backlash, Zi Yu issued a written apology on his official social media account. In his statement, he admitted to mishandling the relationship and acknowledged his shortcomings in managing emotional stress and work pressure. He cited his packed schedule and emotional immaturity as factors that led to poor communication and emotional distance in the relationship.
“I admit that in recent months, I’ve been too focused on work and have been unwise in dealing with personal matters. My way of communicating was immature and inappropriate, which made you feel abandoned and hurt. That was my fault. I should have learned how to build and sustain a relationship in a healthier way,” he wrote.
Zi Yu also expressed his regret directly to his ex-girlfriend and pledged to engage in self-reflection. He added that he would be halting all entertainment activities temporarily to take time off and improve himself.
