LayarHijau– Chinese actress Zhao Lusi sparked buzz once again after appearing in a livestream for the beauty brand Charlotte Tilbury. During the broadcast, she responded to two of the most frequently discussed topics among netizens: long-standing plastic surgery rumors and the delayed release of her new drama Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼).

Zhao Lusi rose to fame through a string of popular dramas, including Love Like the Galaxy (星汉灿烂), Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住), and The Story of Pearl Girl (珠帘玉幕). Her popularity earned her the title “Goddess of Chinese Dramas” among fans. Now serving as a global ambassador for Charlotte Tilbury, she joined beauty blogger Ali Beibei in a livestream where the influencer attempted to recreate her signature makeup look.

However, viewers noted the result looked nothing like Zhao Lusi. In response, the actress jokingly referenced a rumor that has followed her for years: “It’s really hard to imitate. A lot of people say I had plastic surgery, that my face keeps changing—so of course you won’t look like me.”

She went on to clarify that her changing appearance is not due to medical procedures but rather her love of experimenting with different hairstyles and makeup. “I just really like trying new things—this makeup, that hairdo. I’m the kind of person who enjoys variety,” Zhao explained during the broadcast.

Her comments drew mixed reactions online. Some netizens believed her words indirectly confirmed the facial changes, thereby fueling the plastic surgery speculation. Others argued she was being too sensitive to criticism. However, many fans defended her, saying her remarks reflected spontaneity and natural banter in the relaxed setting of a livestream.

Amid the casual tone of the event, Zhao Lusi also addressed her new drama Love’s Ambition, co-starring William Chan. The series wrapped filming 10 months ago and has already gathered over 2.5 million followers on its streaming platform pre-launch page. However, there’s still no confirmed release date.

When asked about the delay, Zhao openly expressed her confusion: “That thing still hasn’t aired. I really don’t know why. I have no idea what’s going on—I’m confused too,” she said.

Her choice of words—referring to the drama as “that thing”—once again sparked online debate. Some felt the phrasing came off as too casual and even disrespectful to her own project. Others interpreted it as a natural expression of frustration, especially given the lengthy and unexplained delay.

According to a report from Upmedia dated July 17, 2025, the delay is believed to be linked to broadcasting regulations from Chinese authorities. During the months of September and October, TV stations and streaming platforms are required to prioritize patriotic-themed series to coincide with national holidays. As a result, several costume dramas like The Princess’s Gambit (桃花映江山) were pushed forward in the schedule, while others—including Love’s Ambition—were postponed indefinitely.

Despite the delay, anticipation remains high. Love’s Ambition is considered one of Zhao Lusi’s most eagerly awaited projects since her previous hits.
