The reports were eventually confirmed on September 16. Youku officially announced the production of Farewell Letter, confirming Zhao Lusi as both the lead actress and director. With the announcement, Zhao Lusi became the first actress from the 1995-born generation to take on a directing role.

The drama’s production lineup includes Zhang Junbo as chief producer and Zhou Zhaozhong. Zhao Tianyou is also part of the writing team and is known for his work on Are You the One (柳舟记).
The drama is also being developed by the core creative team behind Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住).
Who Will Play the Male Lead?
The next major question is who will play the male lead in Farewell Letter. According to the entertainment blogger, the role will be played by Cheng Lei.
However, Cheng Lei has not been officially announced by Youku as part of the Farewell Letter cast in its September 16 announcement. His involvement as the male lead therefore remains a report from the entertainment blogger.
With Zhao Lusi now confirmed as both the lead actress and director, Farewell Letter marks a new step in her career. After taking on producer duties for the first time through I’m Not an NPC, Zhao Lusi is now set to make her directorial debut with the drama.
