Shortly before the drama’s premiere, Bai Jingting posted a photo on his social media revealing his lean and muscular body. The image, which showed his bare torso and defined abs, quickly sparked conversations online. Fans and netizens praised his physical transformation, calling it a major departure from the softer, boy-next-door image he had in previous romantic roles.
However, the spotlight on Bai didn’t end there. According to a report by on.cc on July 14, 2025, his fanbase—known as “1015” after his birthday, October 15—launched a support campaign called “1015场”. The initiative involved organizing mass screening events, known as baochang, and helped push pre-orders of the series past 2 million. The campaign reflects the high level of loyalty and active support from Bai’s fan community.
According to Maoyan’s daily drama rankings as of July 14, Justifiable Defense currently holds the No. 2 spot, highlighting its strong performance and growing popularity.
In the drama, Bai plays Lu Nan, a university student who intervenes to save a female classmate from an attempted assault. In the struggle, he accidentally kills the perpetrator and is sentenced to prison. After serving his sentence, Lu Nan returns to society only to face rejection from those around him—including his own mother. The character is portrayed as morally complex, neither entirely heroic nor villainous, and is weighed down by guilt, trauma, and societal judgment.
The story blends psychological tension, emotional conflict, and unpredictable twists, providing Bai with one of his most challenging acting roles to date.
The drama also features rising child actress Zhang Ximei, known for portraying the middle school version of Sang Zhi in the popular series Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住). In Justifiable Defense, she shares the screen with Bai Jingting, who played Sang Yan in The First Frost (难哄), a sister drama to Hidden Love. Their unexpected reunion on screen delighted fans who followed both titles.
In Justifiable Defense, Zhang Ximei plays a young girl who is the daughter of another inmate and becomes a victim of school bullying. Despite her young age, Zhang delivers a calm, emotional performance that has earned praise from viewers and critics alike.
Combining physical transformation, emotional depth, and strong narrative appeal, Bai Jingting proves once again that he’s not just a visual heartthrob but a versatile actor. With unwavering support from his fans and a compelling storyline, Justifiable Defense is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about dramas of mid-2025.
