First place: Jurassic World: Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett. The dinosaur epic has performed strongly worldwide and earned approximately RMB 184.8 million during its opening weekend in China.
Second place: Malice, a local psychological thriller that has gone viral thanks to its intense, twist-filled storyline.
Meanwhile, Superman (2025) has grossed around RMB 16.8 million in its first two days in China. This is a fair opening for a Western superhero film, though competition is fierce in this summer season.
Early Douban Reactions: Full of Hope, But Not Flawless
Douban has yet to release an official score due to limited ratings, but early comments are providing an initial impression.
Many viewers praise the film’s emotional tone and optimism. James Gunn is credited with reviving the classic, hopeful Superman, with David Corenswet’s performance bringing a human, heartfelt quality. His chemistry with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is often highlighted.
Some positive user comments include:
“David Corenswet 的超人很温柔，和露易丝的对手戏特别有感觉，让人感觉他不仅是个超级英雄，更是个有血有肉的人。”
(“David Corenswet’s Superman is gentle, and his interactions with Lois Lane are especially moving. He feels like a real person, not just a superhero.”)
“这部电影终于让我看到了小时候漫画里的那个超人，阳光正直，满怀希望。”
(“Finally, I see the Superman from childhood comics—bright, righteous, and full of hope.”)
However, criticisms have emerged. Some viewers find the humor too Marvel-like, and certain visual effects inconsistent:
“有些笑话太刻意了，感觉像漫威的风格，超人不该这么搞笑。”
(“Some jokes feel too forced, like Marvel humor. Superman shouldn’t be this comedic.”)
“特效水平不稳定，尤其是太空打斗和部分服装，看起来有些廉价。”
(“The visual effects are uneven, especially in space battles and some costume designs—they look a bit cheap.”)
Others point out that the film feels crowded with side characters, slightly diluting Superman’s presence.
Overall, many consider this a promising start for DC’s reboot, though it’s far from perfect.
Interim Conclusion
Superman (2025) opens a new chapter for DC with a brighter, more hopeful tone. But it faces a tough road ahead to compete with the dominance of Jurassic World: Rebirth and Malice in China’s theaters.
