LayarHijau.com — Since her divorce from actor Hawick Lau in 2018, Yang Mi has often faced public scrutiny regarding her relationship with her daughter, Xiao Nuomi. In past interviews, Hawick’s father, veteran actor Liu Dan, responded vaguely when asked about Yang Mi’s involvement, often saying, “I don’t know” or “I haven’t seen it.” These statements fueled online criticism, with some netizens accusing Yang Mi of being a negligent mother.
However, during a variety show aired on June 2, 2025, Yang Mi’s close friend, actress Xie Yilin, unintentionally revealed a different side of the star—one that portrays Yang Mi as a loving and doting mother who often “shows off her baby” in private.

According to Chinese media reports, Yang Mi and Xie Yilin formed a strong bond during the filming of Tiny Times, and their friendship has lasted to this day. Xie Yilin recalled the early days of Yang Mi’s motherhood and shared how Yang Mi used to constantly gush about her daughter, Xiao Nuomi. While outsiders may not have noticed any changes, Yang Mi couldn’t stop praising how adorable her daughter was.
World Journal reported that Xie Yilin also revealed that during the filming of Tiny Times, Yang Mi was pregnant with Xiao Nuomi. Xie humorously recalled teasing Yang Mi that she could no longer wear pleated skirts during a high school dance scene due to her growing belly. Filming took place from the fourth to the eighth month of Yang Mi’s pregnancy. Despite her condition, Yang Mi remained active on set, even arguing for better storylines—her professionalism deeply impressed, and admittedly frightened, Xie Yilin.
Following her divorce from Hawick Lau, the topic of Xiao Nuomi’s upbringing frequently became a focus online. The media often photographed Hawick picking up their daughter from school and taking her on vacations. Meanwhile, Yang Mi was once heavily criticized after reports claimed she had only spent 37 days with her daughter over a span of three years.
But according to Xie Yilin, that portrayal is far from the truth. She affirmed that Yang Mi has never neglected her daughter. In fact, Hong Kong-based netizens have frequently spotted Yang Mi quietly visiting Xiao Nuomi. One such sighting occurred this past April, when Yang Mi was seen at the Hong Kong High-Speed Rail Station.
With this candid revelation from Xie Yilin, the public now gains a rare glimpse into Yang Mi’s private life—a side that shows her not just as a top actress, but also a devoted and loving mother, even if she chooses to keep that part of her life out of the spotlight.
