After the accident, Wang Yibo’s official information account @YIBO-OFFICIAL quickly responded, emphasizing the importance of “staying calm, driving safely, and accumulating experience on the track in the rain.” This phrase refers to the significance of a driver learning from experiences of driving in poor weather conditions, including understanding how the car reacts on slippery tracks and the strategies needed to remain safe.
According to Sohu’s reports, the Ningbo International Circuit was affected by heavy rain that day, making the track slippery and causing serious water accumulation in several areas. While Wang Yibo and his partner driver, Fang Junyu, were participating in the pre-race practice representing the Uno Racing Team, the car skidded and went off the track, causing damage to the vehicle. Fortunately, this accident did not result in any casualties, but the topic quickly topped the trending list on Weibo.
Wang Yibo’s studio issued a statement on Weibo emphasizing “safe racing” and conveying a calm attitude toward emergencies. The statement also addressed public concerns about safety, indicating that Wang Yibo would continue to participate in competitions while adjusting strategies to face complex weather conditions.
This accident is not the first time Wang Yibo has sparked discussions as a driver. In October 2024, he won the second round championship and finished second in the first round in the GT3 category of the GTSC Series Zhuhai Station, marking an important milestone in his racing career. Previously, he was also known as a motorcycle rider, winning first place in the rookie group at the 2019 Asian Road Motorcycle Race and drawing attention at the 2020 Zhuhai ZIC Motorcycle Race due to a crash.
In addition to racing, Wang Yibo continues to expand into extreme sports, including rock climbing in Yangshuo in 2024 and ice climbing training in Tibet in early 2025, further strengthening his public image as a “cross-border sports expert.”
The pre-season warm-up race of the China GT Championship was held from March 27 to 29, encompassing various events such as the Touring Car Endurance Race. Despite facing setbacks in practice, Wang Yibo’s intensive training record and teamwork abilities are still recognized, and fans are hopeful for a quick adjustment and continued participation in the competition.
