LayarHijau.com—On February 19, Zhang Wanyi’s name appeared on the hot search list. Some netizens compared photos of him with Xu Hao from the same drama, who posted pictures of glutinous rice balls. The photos were interpreted as suggesting that the popular actor was in a romantic relationship with Xu Hao. Moreover, both of their IP addresses on their respective Weibo posts were recorded in Yunnan.
Glutinous rice balls, known as wedang ronde in Indonesian culture, are said to be inspired by the Chinese version called tangyuan. Wedang ronde, which originates from Indonesia, is made from glutinous rice flour shaped into balls and filled with palm sugar, served in a sweet ginger broth. Meanwhile, tangyuan is the Chinese version typically eaten during the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival. Both symbolize unity, harmony, and happiness, making them significant symbols in their respective cultures.

Sharing glutinous rice balls or tangyuan with a partner carries a deep meaning. This moment of sharing signifies unity and love between couples, as well as hopes for happiness and harmony in their relationship. By enjoying this sweet dish together, couples not only savor the flavors but also strengthen their emotional bond, reminding each other of the importance of support and togetherness in their journey through life.
Both actors star in the drama “Si Jin.” Zhang Wanyi plays the lead male character in the series, paired with Jing Tian, while Xu Hao portrays Cui Mingyue, a supporting character in the drama.
From a photo shared by a netizen, it was evident that Zhang Wanyi did eat the same glutinous rice balls as the other stars on set. However, fans confidently refuted the rumor in the comments, stating that this was likely Lantern Festival food provided by the crew. “Please don’t get involved in rumors. We just want to film well,” they wrote, as reported by Jimu News.
In response, Zhang Wanyi’s studio quickly issued a statement: “Colleagues in the crew shared Lantern Festival glutinous rice balls together. Single Zhang is currently filming in Yunnan; see you in ‘Si Jin’!” Several netizens also shared Lantern Festival photos from other actors in the same crew, proving that everyone enjoyed glutinous rice balls that day.
