Xiao Zhan and Zhong Chuxi’s friendship began while they were filming the series Ace Troops. Their camaraderie has clearly flourished and extended into real life.
This isn’t the first time Xiao Zhan has supported the films and dramas of his friends. He faced controversy when he backed Johnny Huang’s film, The Procurator, which also starred Johnny Huang from Ace Troops. The controversy arose because Wang Yibo’s film, Born to Fly, was also showing at the same time. Nevertheless, Xiao Zhan continued to support Johnny Huang’s film.
This year, Xiao Zhan has maintained his habit of supporting his friends’ works. Before backing Zhong Chuxi, he showed support for Zhao Lusi’s new drama, The Story of Pearl Girl. Xiao Zhan is known for his high loyalty to those close to him and is unafraid to show his support.
Herstory tells the story of the friendship between two women. Wang Tie Mei (Song Jia), a resilient single mother, moves to a new home with her young daughter, Wang Mo Li, in search of a fresh start.
There, she befriends her neighbor, Xiao Ye (Zhong Chuxi), a free-spirited woman with a romantic and self-aware outlook on life. Despite their contrasting personalities—one being strong and pragmatic, the other soft and spontaneous—they form an unlikely bond, offering each other solace and support as they confront past traumas and new challenges.
Amid these changes, two men complicate Tie Mei’s journey: her meddling ex-husband and her daughter’s drum teacher, who hints at unexpected possibilities. Together, these characters navigate questions of identity, gender roles, and their evolving relationships with the world and each other.
