The estimated values of these intellectual properties (IPs) were revealed during the 6th Jinjiang Authors Conference held in Hangzhou on August 22, 2026, featuring figures that range from a few million dollars to more than $14.9 million.
The event generated even greater buzz due to the first-ever public appearance of Wu Zhe (巫哲), the author of the hit web novel Run Freely (《撒野》), after nearly two decades of writing. Wu Zhe’s polished, professional image stood in stark contrast to the online persona familiar to long-time readers. However, beyond her appearance, the disclosed price range for Jinjiang’s top audiovisual adaptations remained the central topic among industry insiders.

Novel IPs Valued at $1.5 Million–$4.5 Million (RMB 10–30 Million)
The first tier covers IPs valued between RMB 10 million and RMB 30 million, featuring several hit titles that have either been brought to the screen or are currently in development. Among them is the novel The White Olive Tree, which was adapted into the 2025 drama of the same name, and the novel Waiting for the Wind to Warmly Kiss You, which inspired the upcoming drama Kiss in the Wind. Other titles in this bracket include the novel Confession, adapted into a drama of the same title, and the novel Long Moon Ash Bright, which achieved massive success through its 2023 drama adaptation Till the End of the Moon, starring Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu.
Also listed in this category is the novel Ten Years of Lanterns in the Jianghu Night Rain, adapted into the 2026 drama Generation to Generation, alongside the novel Silent Reading, which was adapted into the drama Justice in the Dark. Readers also found the novel You Are More Beautiful Than Beijing, adapted into the drama As Beautiful as You, the novel That Unknown Story, adapted into the 2024 drama The Untold Story, and the novel Daily Life of Qing Time Travel, which became the hit 2022 drama New Life Begins. Novel IPs Valued at $4.5 Million–$13.4 Million (RMB 30–90 Million)
Moving up to the RMB 30 million to RMB 90 million tier, the listed novels carry even higher commercial weight. Highlights include the novel Can’t Hide Secretly, which was successfully adapted into the hit 2023 drama Hidden Love, starring Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan. Its companion novel, Hard to Coax, also sits in this category and was adapted into the 2025 drama The First Frost, starring Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan.
Interestingly, this high-value tier also features novels that have not yet received live-action adaptations. For instance, the novel Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire has so far only been adapted into a donghua (animated series), while popular titles like Global College Entrance Exam, Breaking Through the Clouds, and Pretending to Be a Slacker have only expanded into manhua or audio dramas. Meanwhile, the novel So-and-So successfully crossed over into a Taiwanese drama adaptation titled The Only One.
Novel Run Freely Nears $14.9 Million
Approaching the RMB 100 million threshold (approximately $14.9 million) is the novel Run Freely by Wu Zhe. The novel was adapted into the drama Chasing the Light (《左肩有你》), starring Fan Chengcheng and Wang Anyu. Even though the drama has finished production and has yet to receive an official air date, the novel’s IP value alone ranks among the highest on Jinjiang’s roster.
Two Mo Xiang Tong Xiu Novels Worth More Than $14.9 Million
The top tier belongs to IPs valued at RMB 100 million or more, exceeding $14.9 million. This elite bracket is swept by two flagship works from mega-author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (墨香铜臭).
The first is the novel Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (《魔道祖师》), which was adapted into the 2019 global phenomenon drama The Untamed (《陈情令》), propelling lead actors Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo to international stardom. The second is the novel Heaven Official’s Blessing (《天官赐福》), adapted into the upcoming drama Eternal Faith, starring Zhang Linghe and Zhai Xiaowen.
These astronomical figures underline the immense commercial value of popular web novels as the primary backbone of China’s entertainment industry—even when screen adaptations face delays in reaching the broadcast stage.
